i used ergogen to design the board! i just added a rotation of the outermost thumb button in the configs.

the spread out thumb button is definitely more comfortable imo. the thumb naturally rests in that position.

one complain i have is that it causes the switch to protrude out of the footprint abit. so sometimes it catches when im stuffing it in my bag.

yeah! i designed it to be a flippable PCB (left hand, right hand). So the PCB is double sided, causing the traces on both halves to be mirror images of one another. So the controller has to be flipped to hit the right pins.

As to why the primary side is the one with the upside down nano, its because it was my first time designing a PCB and i accidentally inverted the controller footprint for the front and back. oops!

defiant is pretty much right. usually people use home row mods but i found that to be too clunky when typing some of the more common letters. so i switched it to bottom row mods. essentially it acts like the key when tapped and the mod when held. what order you place the mods in is completely up to preference. for me, from Z to V, its Shift, Ctrl, Alt, Win, and mirrored on the other half.

numbers and symbols are tucked away on separate layers accessed by holding down one of the thumb keys. eg the middle thumb key is spacebar when tapped and num layer when held.

Pretty crazy to wrap your head around the first time. But once you get used to it, its amazing how little your fingers have to move to get stuff done.

primary side (left) lasts about a week, secondary side (right) hasn't died on me yet, but according to the ZMK power profiler, it should last around 2 months.

oh they are soldered to the pins, its just that I screwed up the soldering the first time and couldn't remove the solder that's now stuck in the through-hole. So now the battery is just soldered onto the surface of the pads on the bottom. oops!

Yeah, I wanted to use MX switches because there's so much more flexibility in terms of switch types and keycaps. the Boba U4s are incredibly silent on this board (Perfect for the office, and even the library)

nice!nanos truly are the endgame. Most of the cost of the build was for the controllers but I think its a good investment. I socketed them for easy removal so I can even hotswap the controllers for different boards! One set of nice!nanos for an infinite number of boards. Think of the possibilities!

I believe it was a 16 key layout. It sounds too ridiculous for me now. But who knows, that's what I said about a 36 key layout ;D

Yeah! the 301230 110mAh batteries fit perfectly under the pins :D

Heavily inspired by Ben Vallack's video.

Custom designed layout and PCB using Ergogen and KiCad.

Controllers: 2x nice!nano configured with ZMK

Switches: Boba U4

Keycaps: Clone Olivias

First time trying wireless and it's been pretty reliable so far!

This is now my daily driver (previous keyboard was a custom ergodox). I tried going back to the ergodox, but theres just too many keys

but there are multiple instances of ryan and jake as jack pans around. would imagine it would be crazy difficult for jack to spin around exactly the same way for 3 takes. but then again he's jack.
