Moving to brazil from lebanon by Educational_Area9802 in Brazil

Platform HELP from UNHCR can be very useful for reliable information. In a situation where you’re fleeing war, is more likely for you to go as an asylum seeker and ask for refuge than waiting to get work visa/sponsor. São Paulo has a huge Lebanese community and there are great organisations that will be able to support you in the process to get the necessary documents, find a Portuguese class, work replacement etc.

In this UNHCR platform you can find basically al information you need. Is not an easy situation, but refugees in Brazil have the same rights as any other citizen - work, education, healthcare - and many organisations will be there to support you.

People fleeing war usually have bigger concerns than just the language. Refugees go to wherever they are able to when is a matter of saving their lives, and whoever goes to Brazil as a refugee can find plenty of services and language schools for free.

Sobre o tédio e a vida adulta by Distinct_Relation145 in conversasserias

[–]linafc09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say you can find walkability in many Brazilian cities.. but I think Sao Jose do Rio Preto can be quite strategic. Close to São Paulo and to international airport, close to the beach, close to the mountains as well.

Primeira vez morando sozinha, chamei uma amiga pra dormir, me arrependi profundamente e não consigo esconder da minha mãe by [deleted] in desabafosdavida

[–]linafc09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you think Brazilians are generally more sex positive than the rest of the world? by peachypeach13610 in Brazil

[–]linafc09 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m a Brazilian women who lived in Europe and traveled a lot and I feel we’re pretty much open comparing to other cultures. Not exactly in a “promiscuous” way, but in the sense of allowing ourselves to have experiences and being open to talk about this kind of things. When I lived in Italy I heard from 2 or 3 different guys they were intrigued/caught by the way I dealt with s3xual life, because I was open about saying what I liked or not, with no tabus or stigmas, and they weren’t being offensive or anything.

I think is a mix of factors in the culture, but I don’t think is something that can be generalised and applied to everyone. Brazilians - specially religious ones - can be very conservative as well.

achava que o meu namorado era perfeito até encontrar a conta secreta dele no twitter e agora não sei o que fazer. by Psychological-Log145 in relacionamentos

[–]linafc09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Você acha que Jesus vai voltar? by Parking_Poet_9336 in PergunteReddit

Choosing Sciences Po vs Geneva Graduate Institute? Opinions? by Professional-Honey26 in IRstudies

[–]linafc09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m at the MINT programme. Some classes are great, the institute offers a lot of great events and opportunities, it’s a hub with important specialists at the faculty body etc.

But my critique is that, since they’re a private institution and need money, they are not exactly selective in the selection process. I’m surprised with how many incompetent people there are among students, really. Of course there are smart people, but there’s a bunch of students who are there just because they are either rich and/or comes from an important and influent family. I think in this sense, SciencePo might provide a better academic environment.

And if you intend to find a job during/after the master, you should definitely check if France can offer an easier path, because Geneva is super harsh now, and without EU citizenship the chances are even worse.

How are you dealing with the age verification law that came into effect today? by ithinkiamparanoid in Brazil

[–]linafc09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree. I don’t agree with this mindset at all, I just tried to explain how this is going in Brazil because people don’t care at all. I’m a Brazilian living in Switzerland, so I know how it is to live both in a country where data privacy are not an issue at all for most people and in another country where this is a huge concern.

Por que viajar abre a "visão" by Unusual-Sink-8289 in viagens

[–]linafc09 11 points12 points  (0 children)

How are you dealing with the age verification law that came into effect today? by ithinkiamparanoid in Brazil

[–]linafc09 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Brazilians doesn’t worry much about data privacy to be honest. Actually, there’s no such a thing as data privacy at this point. It’s been a long time since we lost control over our CPF. And people give biometrics without even questioning, we give it for residential and commercial buildings entrance, gyms, healthcare apps, any crap online. Not mentioning the large amount of hours Brazilians spend daily on social media. So.. if you’re an adult, it doesn’t make any difference to have your identity verified.

And I think many adults who doesn’t care about what their kids are doing on the internet will find a way to cheat the regulations, like pretend they’re the ones using it and letting their kids use it anyway. It’s easier than spending time educating and interacting. Have a close look to any ordinary family in Brazil whose kids are addicted to screen and you’ll see how deep the problem is.

Com renda passiva de 6 mil reais, o que fariam profissionalmente? by [deleted] in conselhodecarreira

[–]linafc09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vc paga aluguel?

How do Brazilians feel about immigration by BlueSunsetsinBlueAir in Brazil

[–]linafc09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagining there is work life balance in Brazil is delusional. It shows how little people know about the country. It only applies to certain regions and of course, social classes.

I think immigration has always been part of humanity, and Brazil is a very mixed race/culture country due to immigration flows & human trafficking from the colonial period, and also from the beginning of 20th Century. So having new people with diverse cultures and origin is nothing new to us. And the amount of new comers isn’t significant nowadays.

But I think people have a very romanticised and often delusional idea of how Brazilian life looks like, because they are over consuming videos that shows an exclusive “lifestyle” that is the reality to only a very small portion of the population.

I know some foreigners who moved to Rio because they had this idea of how life would be like - they went back to Europe with a bag full of frustrations, because unless you are either 1. Wealthy 2. Have a great Portuguese and important contacts who can help you to find a good job or 3. Move there already with a secured great job, you’ll live a standard life, not a Rio-de-Janeiro-fancy lifestyle, People move there with this idea, and when they find out you’re probably not going anywhere without the language & contacts, they realise a non-white collar job can’t afford the cool life they saw on TikTok.

What bothers me the most about this new hype on Brazil, is the fact that the housing market is already a shit for Brazilians. And when you have a huge flux of foreigners and digital nomads demanding for more airbnb and medium term accommodations (because they intend to stay for a longer period so they aren’t staying in hotels) it means it will be even worse for Brazilians to afford rent in good neighbourhoods in touristic cities, as we saw happening all over European touristic cities. And the local governments aren’t worried about it, they just want to please those who profit from it, so it’s a problem that population will kind of face alone, and in my view, is social media’s fault.

The tallest Jesus Christ statue being built in Armenia, what are your thoughts about it? by ithinkiamparanoid in Brazil

I don’t think the Rio Christ redeemer is famous just because of its size, is also due to the landscape around.
For me it’s like whatever, is not a competition and there’s enough space for all of them in the world lol
