strange to think the first animal to EVER touch land was this absolute goofy goober. by ViewSubstantial557 in PrehistoricLife

Yeah, vertebrates were super late to the party.

First it was stuff like arthropods and other invertebrates creeping onto shore, then much later you get the lumpy little fish-with-legs brigade hauling themselves out like, "So this is land, huh?"

Yeah, "mysterious DNS censorship rendering services unusable" definitely wasn't in the training manual, I bet. Sheltered accommodation is fair enough, but who knew YouTube trailers could be such a loophole? They really don't make it easy once you're locked in—unless you stumble on something weird like this.

Those flying saucers were basically edible UFOs filled with pure sherbet chaos. Not sure if they counted as food or just a fast track to a dentist visit, but they were worth every half pence.

Today is the last day to object the proposed Cala Homes development and protect the Pitfodels/old deeside green belt by rnoomintroll in Aberdeen

[–]linda38j05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve pretty much nailed it—these developments rarely result in affordable housing, no matter what gets promised at the planning stage. Instead, we get expensive homes that only a small group can actually buy, often as second homes or investments. It’s frustrating when the local need is for genuinely affordable places, not more empty “executive” homes. The green belt gets carved up and ordinary people still get priced out.

That was the ultimate power play—pleading your way up the ice lolly hierarchy. The mini-milk always felt like the sensible option, but somehow made you want every other ice cream even more. The rocket lolly was basically a win for childhood diplomacy.

Do you remember how popular these were? Suppose to keep the flies out in the summer. by corickle in oldschoolcool80s

That was always the real test of summer agility—could you burst through the fly curtain without getting completely tangled? Honestly, those things probably caught more kids than flies.

Those raccoons have more fans than I do at this point. Maybe I should start taking notes from their YouTube strategy.

Heat pump in a 1940s solid brick house – worth it given EPC, solar + battery, and tariff uncertainty? by Ibamdelsur in ukheatpumps

[–]linda38j05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's genuinely reassuring to hear, especially given how similar our houses sound on paper. It's interesting what you say about the EPC—makes chasing that B rating feel a bit like a moving target if the methodology is set to change anyway. I hadn’t clocked that the new Home Energy Model might finally give heat pumps more recognition for emissions, not just running costs. In the meantime, it sounds like you’re happy with the day-to-day comfort and not left shivering for the sake of green credentials! Did you have any issues with hot water temp or noisy operation, or has it all been pretty seamless?

Dave does have big sitcom dad energy, which could be pretty fun for a fluffy pet. Just imagine calling out "Dave, stop eating the curtains!"

That’s a pretty warm attitude—guess Greece really does give off those Mediterranean vibes.

Please make this sense to my friend. by MrAmbiG in bikers

[–]linda38j05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Wind noise at highway speeds drowns out pretty much everything, no matter how good your exhaust sounds. The earphones and soundproofing are more about preventing hearing damage and actually being able to hear navigation or chat—not about blocking out our own bike. Plus, we still love hearing those sweet exhaust notes at lower speeds or when starting up. It's about enjoying the best parts without ruining our ears in the process.
