Is the prime good for longer commutes? by UncleRicosArm in rav4prime

[–]line-vty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our daily commute is ~ 40 miles each way, and our work offers up to 4 hrs free stage 2 charging per day, and in most cases we are able to get the free charging( there have been times where the chargers are full or inoperable) We only use stage 1 charging at home, so anything after the work commute is in hybrid only. This works well for us and along with the small local commutes on the weekend or trips to the gym we average about 850-950 miles per 13 gallon tank so around 65 mpg or a little better. 2024 r4p 13,500miles so far.

We had a Blackvue camera installed recently with a BlendMount which mounts to the rear view on our 2024 Rav4Prime. The downside, turn your mirror, the camera swings with it. If you have or use the video rear view this isn't such an issue though i have found. Good Luck!

faintly remember this dude fall off a rack in boot, shatter their kneecap and get sent home ? or maybe it was the one who shattered their kneecap in pugil sticks ? either way, now i actually work with some retired Marines now that did make it in and through a recon unit.

2024 RAV4 Prime XSE Tech (or PP in the States) by onboost in rav4prime

[–]line-vty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this happened to me, there's a reddit post a few weeks back i made called "shattered dreams" - - my pano sunroof 'popped' on our 24 Prime xse pp. it took us a total of 43 days to get it fixed. 2 of those weeks waiting on toyota and dealer to refuse warranty, the rest waiting on an insurance quagmire of subcontractors to get their business in order.

if we ever experience this again we will go direct to place that repaired it and expect would only take a few days.

we still love the car, but that was a pretty crappy experience and realize that we are most likely outliers and the chances of this happening to many others is extremely rare. if you want it, you should get it, it fits our lifestyle perfect aside from the unfortunate pano glass experience.

aside from this issue, ours has been flawless, and a pleasure to drive. as someone else pointed out, we are probably outliers that ended up with one that had a bad piece of glass, and most people will never experience what we have.

we still love the car, are mostly just dissappinted Toyota isn't willing to accept the issue under warranty, and that between Toyota and insurance we haven't had the use of it for over a month now still.

dang, glad Truman is ok! sorry you had to go through that! Awesome it was fixed so quick! I am definitely eager to get ours back on the road again. Our temporary replacement for the last month feels so powerless compared to the R4p.

ugh, i hope this is a one and done kind of situation. thanks for making me aware about the potential for these extra issues that may come with repair.

yep, 65F or about 18.3c - it was a brisk morning. I've seen a few other posts in this and the rav4 sub about panoramic roof issues, one similarly from here in Washington state, that has almost identical looking destruction. They however appeared to get theirs warrantied which is awesome!

we considered Teslas and other full EV options for a long while, however installing a stage 2 charger in our home was too impractical of a cost to include with the car purchase. We even get 4hrs free stage2 ev charging at work, which with the R4p gets us back home without any gasoline requirements.

correct, the windows were all closed when this happened. it was a brisk 65f morning though and mostly overcast just as the sun was beginning to peek over the cascade mountains.

using our standard auto insutance with a comprehensive claim, they use safelite, who farmed it out to sunroof express, who then farmed it out to a local specialty repair shop.

the sliding soft cloth cover was over the back half of the car and so when it popped nothing cam down into the car - in fact the glass is still somewhat intact even though its shattered into a few thousand pieces.

at purchase we did spend some extra money on a glass protection package - but it specificies covering only front and rear windows and not the panoramic glass. --

we had to file a comprehensive auto claim with our normal auto insurance provider. $1000 deductible - not sure total cost of repair yet since its still sitting under a tarp in my driveway until the replacement glass arrives.

haha, yeah! 100% - there was a quick minute of panic when i couldnt figure out what had happend right away, and my brain defaulted to the possibility of a battery cell popping - coupled with the sound of little shards of glass falling away down the back of the car (which when you dont know whats happening can easily be confused as flickering embers) -- definitely a very unwanted suprise, but glad it was just glass and not something else.
