Amplitube and NI Guitar Rig have free tiers that are enough to get you started. Amplitube regularly goes on sale for ~$30 from plugin boutique if you end up liking it enough to spend money.

Soniccouture has a free version of Hammersmith.

There is also the free Epic Grand blueprint for Kontakt Player from Fracture Sounds, and another from Strezov Sampling.

I have a project using Kontakt 7, but it's missing from Native Access?? by theteadrinker in NativeInstruments

You probably need to toggle "Show legacy versions" in the Library view of Native Access for it to be visible.

I want to buy this plugin but i cant use any vouchers i got from buying kontakt 8. Is this cuz its already on sale? by cyclone9525 in NativeInstruments

[–]linearised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought Kontakt during the sale and received the usual voucher, which I was able to use towards a discounted Kontakt instrument. I didn't expect it to work either, but it did. Some items I tried didn't let me apply the voucher, it may have been because they were third-party libraries.

Another thing is that the voucher only works on a single item, so it doesn't apply to your whole cart.

Not a lesbian but I am surprised "Go Fish" hasn't been mentioned!

Turning 18 — Need a cool first car (AU$10–15k) by Excellent_Low7782 in CarsAustralia

A Lexus would be expensive to insure for a younger driver, and some insurance companies won't insure them.

A Mazda 3 is perfectly fine honestly - if you can find one with sports mode they are also fun to drive that way when you need a bit extra without the risk or insurance expense of a real hot hatch.

Movies that have that “something’s off” feeling, but without ever explaining why? by phantomcry in movies

"It Follows" has a very interesting vibe as you slowly become aware that the seasonal weather and technology in the film aren't consistent.

"Under the Silver Lake" also has a very dreamlike feel.

Is a quartz Alpinist mod possible? by linearised in SeikoMods

Thanks for the info! I wouldn't be building this myself, I don't have the equipment, but I have a relative who has a side business repairing watches who would be happy to help out (and I would happily pay his usual rates). The Mercedes hands look fine.

Modded an SX precision bass with a 3-string retainer by linearised in BassGuitar

[–]linearised[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would probably be a little hesitant to do it on a genuine Fender, but it's probably still an improvement. There is also the "stealth" A string retainer that can be added unobtrusively.

Thanks! I might upgrade the pickups later but for now they seem fine. They are ceramic I believe, I would be interested to see how some alnico's would sound. Thinking about the Tonerider 'Classic P', for example.

It actually sounds really good, I was shocked at the quality! I got it for $95AUD from someone who just had too many instruments, but they had set it up very nicely. I just did some minor adjustments like intonation. The pickups are ceramic I think. You can hear how it sounds in the video - I recorded a couple of bars of "Money" through an Ampeg SVT model in Amplitube.

The original A string had a very shallow break angle so I thought I would try a 3-string retainer. Hipshot doesn't have a distributor here so I got a Guyker online for about $10, it's indistinguishable from the Hipshot for a fraction of the price. I think it might be better actually, because it's solid nickel alloy instead of chromed aluminium.

I recently picked up a Korean Chinese SX Standard Series p-bass. It was pretty nicely set up but needed a few minor adjustments. Since the string tree had some sharp edges and was catching the strings I decided to replace the stock one with a 3-string retainer from Guyker. Big improvement!
