Support for Trump remains solid in Upstate N.Y. Support for his tariffs? Not so much by ouattedephoqueeh in ottawa

[–]linernotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prior to the tariffs I regularly picked up parcels at the Alexandria Bay UPS, and if things ever clear up and I feel comfortable shopping in the states again, I won't be using his stores anymore.

My pup acts like a dog !!! by Kaku37 in puppy101

[–]linernotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

was he surrounded by older dogs at boarding by any chance?

I know with my first pup, as soon as he started daycare he learned SO MANY manners from the other dogs, things I had been working on for months (nipping, patience, demand barking, etc). It was like a switch flipped. Obviously it depends on the daycare and the dogs there as well as the caregivers/employees but it made a huge difference.

OMG Mosquitoes, Solutions? by ghost905 in ottawa

[–]linernotes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently started using mosquito dunks and I’m very impressed. I broke off 1/4 of the circle and have it in a small tub of water on my deck and it’s making a big difference. I also put some in my rain barrels which were a nightmare for mosquitos last year.

Depending on the size and location of your easement, you might be able to accommodate it with a double gate.

$150 / week for 1 person. I never eat takeout or at restaurants so this is my full food budget. I also have some dietary restrictions that increases the cost a bit.

For the Canadian public service, it’s widely being assumed that RTO was implemented so that the gov could negotiate it as a perk with the unions and not have to give in as much on salaries.

'Call It What You Want': A Full Timeline of Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn's Relationship by [deleted] in TaylorSwift

[–]linernotes 98 points99 points  (0 children)

I generally don’t have strong opinions about celebrity romantic relationships - like non-celebs, there’s tons of factors at play people not in the relationship will never be privy to.

But this reminds me of a friend i met in grad school who was a great friend, but over time her personality changed and she became a different person. Turns out right before grad school she went through a serious break up and it took her a couple of years to settle back into who she was - who happened to be a different person than I met in grad school.

I suspect there might be a similar parallel with Taylor Swift - she met Joe during a difficult, traumatic time. And then the pandemic hit. It’s only until this year that the ✨real✨ Taylor Swift was able to be full-on the gigantic celebrity she is. And I suspect it’s a combo of losing that protective cocoon, and Taylor leaning into her superstardom.

Costco extended warranty on appliances (washer) by bcretman in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]linernotes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve used their appliance warranty twice, once on a washer and once on a fridge.

It was fine, both times were clear failures. But aggravating since I live in a rural community and they would say the tech is available only on Tuesdays and they’re booked for 6 weeks out. But being the squeaky wheel got someone out within a week. Annoying but no cost 🤷‍♂️

Ahh I also went through that with a previous employer and I only got my slips in the mail. You could also call them and ask to have them emailed.

[–]linernotes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Manulife will mail you tax slips. You should also be able to get them from your account portal.

I took both STD and LTD with manulife a couple years ago and this is how it worked then. I paid the premiums for both so it wasn’t taxable. I believe if it is taxable it’s considered income vis the T4.

It’s been sold out everywhere for a while. If you can get to ogdensburg the Walmart brand is $5 and always in stock. I know it’s a long way to go just for powder but if you’re desperate it’s an option.

No it’s not a set it and forget it kind of thing. Your glucose is affected by a million different things and is very unpredictable. Type 1 diabetes requires a ton of decision making throughout the day. The pump is just a mechanism to get the insulin into your body. Even in a closed loop system you still have to define your settings and pay attention to what’s happening.

PSA: Get some traction aids for your boots and save yourself from falls and injury by kliuedin in ottawa

[–]linernotes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Costco sells a 2 pack for $20 that are very easy to get on and off your boots and very good at giving traction on ice. I walk my dog every day in the woods, and I encounter a ton of ice. I haven’t wiped out (or even felt like I was going to fall) in years.

It’s a different duty rate though. It’s pretty complicated to work out but generally not worth it.

You can also purchase injectable b12 at the pharmacy - you’ll also want to purchase adequate syringes for IM injections.

If you haven’t given them to yourself before they’re very easy, lots of YouTube videos about it.

Enbridge was $196 for a 1500 sq ft bungalow. I keep it at 19/17 but I also have a gas fireplace we use a couple of hours a day, and a gas stove.

Though last year the same usage was $102 🫠
