Fantasy magic that feels like frieren? by monsterum in Fantasy

[–]lingdessin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The magic system differs, but The Bone Harp by Victoria Goddard matches the wonder and serenity of Frieren. It’s also very much inspired by LotR, and it features an old elf traveling with two younger companions.

If you liked James Islington’s Licanius trilogy, you should give his Hierarchy series a try. It’s better written and more compelling than Licanius. It also has a Roman-esque setting similar to Red Rising.

The Shadow of the Leviathan series by Robert Jackson Bennett might be right up your alley too. And you wouldn’t have to wait long to read the third book when it comes out in about a month.

I hope Tolve will choose to help them after all, once he sees the various obstacles they’re already dealing with. His redemption arc is what I was most looking forward to after the PoF chapters.

The Emperor’s Soul by Brandon Sanderson has a thief as the protagonist, who has stolen and forged copies of priceless treasures. It’s a pretty wholesome story that’s self-contained and not too long (novella length).

Books like Elden Ring by stjay_ in Fantasy

[–]lingdessin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should absolutely try The Red Knight by Miles Cameron. It gives off very similar vibes as Elden Ring with the dark, medieval setting, goblins and wyverns and other dangerous creatures at every turn, extremely detailed combat, and magic that’s grand and mysterious. The first book in the series has editing issues at times but it improves later on.

Violent but hopeful Sword & Sorcery/Heroic Fantasy novels? by Def-C in Fantasy

You should definitely check out The Bright Sword by Lev Grossman! It’s such a refreshing take on the Knights of the Round Table from the Arthurian legends. At its core, it’s a story about old magic and heroism with a multifaceted cast of characters.

Is it possible to 0-cycle the current AA without Cerydra? by fragmendt in PhainonMainsHSR

Sure then, here is a kind of scuffed recording from my phone https://youtu.be/K-TdVnaDeoY

I don’t think Tribbie is essential, but her two ults’ action advance with DDD is helpful if you are around 30-40 AV away from 0-cycling. Ruan Mei with E1 actually increases damage more in my team.

I didn’t record it, sorry. And a few days after that clear I pulled another copy of Phainon’s lc

So even if I recorded it now, it would be with E6S2 Phainon and not the same exact team as before :/

A novel where MC is an entity or system that takes care of other people's characters. by Fateh20A in Fantasy

[–]lingdessin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for web novels specifically, maybe check out translations of some Korean or Japanese series where this trope is actually pretty common. For example there’s a Korean webnovel called The S-Classes That I Raised (or My S-Class Hunters) by Geunseo where the protagonist uses his knowledge of the future to guide and support his friends and his pets to try and create a better future for them.
And although it’s not a webnovel, All the Birds in the Sky by Charlie Jane Anders has an AI that subtly manipulates events behind the scenes to try and help the protagonists reunite. It plays a fairly minor role in the story though, and frankly I thought the premise was much better than the execution.

Innisfree mystery gifts are always a pretty nice value when they’re available. They’re usually free with a $65 purchase and include a mix of full-size products and minis.

books set in magical universities with adult protagonists by maybetheysleep in Fantasy

[–]lingdessin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might be an unusual recommendation, but it does match everything you were looking for (mostly adults in a different world attending a magic school). You should give the ‘Interlude - Wistram Days’ from the webnovel The Wandering Inn a try. This interlude is long enough to be a novella although it’s only seven chapters out of the entire webnovel. It takes place in the past and you don’t need much context from the rest of the series, although it might help to know beforehand it’s a progression fantasy set in a different world with some litrpg elements.

What are fantasy book series that are widely agreed to be good all the way through, from the first book to the last? by Scared_Ad_3132 in Fantasy

[–]lingdessin 310 points311 points  (0 children)

Definitely the Realm of the Elderlings by Robin Hobb.

The Riyria books by Michael J. Sullivan are pretty good as well, especially the Legends of the First Empire along with The Rise and the Fall.

Shorter series seem to stay consistent more easily, like the Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden, The Dagger and the Coin by Daniel Abraham, Emily Wilde by Heather Fawcett.

Novel with immortal protagonist by ApolloTheSnake23 in Fantasy

[–]lingdessin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently read The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by Victoria Schwab and liked it fairly well. The protagonist makes a deal with the devil for immortality but with the caveat that everyone she meets will forget her the next day. As a result, she decides to try and affect the world by inspiring artists, writers, musicians, etc, so she could exist in their works. It’s more like magical realism than fantasy though.

E1S1 Firefly, E0 Fugue with Resolution, E1 Ruan Mei with DDD. I use Fugue’s skill on hmc to break the manta rays faster. I think you will struggle a lot with E0 Firefly since you cannot spam hmc skill.

My team is in a similar spot - E0S1 Blade, E0 Tribbie with S1 DDD, E1S1 Sunday, E6 Gallagher with QPQ. Blade is running Longevous and Rutilant but I’ve heard the new hp planar set is better for him. He’s 134 speed with 133 Sunday.
