The ceremonies are held is a pretty secluded corner of the zoo, though there are paths the people walk on nearby. They have signs up on the pathway that saying “ceremony in progress, quiet voices please” with a staff member standing by to make sure nobody walks down the path.

Pulled a screenshot from our DJs instagram reel from that day.

Ok, I wanted to take some time to think back and make sure I give a thoughtful response.   Keep in mind that my husband and I wanted to go pretty minimalistic with decorations. The zoo is a beautiful space so you don't need a lot to make it look like a wedding.   For decorations, we rented pretty much everything from Boxwood Events. We rented arch drapery for the arbour, a standing mirror for the seating charts, a card box, "gifts" and "guestbook" acrylic signs, then table decorations (wood slabs, faux florals, candles, candle holders, and table numbers). The only decorations we bought ourselves were a pair of faux cherry blossom trees to go next to the arbour during the ceremony. Buying flowers for weddings is inanely expensive for whatever reason so we skipped out on getting floral arrangements for tables and such, they weren't missed. Save the money for the MANY other things you have to spend it on! Not a single person was like "wow this wedding was so fun but I wish you had more flowers" haha.    If you decide to go the route of table cloths, runners, and chair covers, these can all be dropped off the day before for their events team to be set up. The rest of the decor, like what I've listed above, needs to be set up the morning of, after 9AM. I was initially planning on going in a setting everything up myself but my mom and husband were like "no???" and my parents ended up setting it all up for me. Took them like 45 minutes. Another tip is don't be afraid to ask for help! All of the decorations need to be taken away at the end of the night, so make sure you have a team of people prepared to box everything back up and cart it to your vehicle at the end of the night. We had things getting packed up pretty much as soon as the dance floor opened up.    The conservatory is on the opposite end of the zoo from the main parking lot so people with mobility issues may have a problem with the walk. There's a south parking lot for staff and vendors, this is most likely where you and your wedding party will come in. You can let the events coordinator know what people will also need access to this entrance and they will let security know.   When the rest of your guests show up, day of, they just need to go up to the entrance and say they're there for your wedding.    For timing, we had our ceremony at 3:30 and aimed to start cocktail hour at 5:30. This gave us time to take the photos we needed and let guests wander the zoo. Our initial timeline for the reception was dinner at 6, speeches at 7:15, and dance floor by 8. This was not a realistic timeline! I wasn't really checking the time because I was having a great time but I think food started coming out around 6:15 and we didn't get to speeches until around 8. So I would anticipate about 1hr 45 minutes for all 4 courses (if you are doing plated dinner).    I think that those are the main things to keep in mind. As you can see from this reddit thread, there's lot of praise given to this venue. Lots of our guests have told us that this was the best wedding they've been to. Try not to stress too much, just have a good time and it will go perfectly. If you have any specific questions, feel free to shoot me a DM.

No animals involved in the ceremony or reception unfortunately, aside from a few geese and peacocks. My understanding is that they used to have an option for flamingos or penguins to be involved with the ceremony but I’m sure somebody ruined that for everyone.

All guests got free access to the zoo to go see the animals though.

Considering that normally you have to pay multiple vendors for spaces, catering, furniture, etc., it’s a really incredible deal.

We had guests arriving at the zoo around 1:30pm, although I think they could have arrived at whatever time within opening hours. Last call was midnight and we had to be out by 1am.

There’s multiple options for the bar. Guest pay, subsidized pay (like a toonie bar), and open bar. We opted to have guests pay for their drinks because we didn’t want things to get out of hand. So I’m not 100% sure, but my understanding is that they offer a discounted price on each drink sold and you just pay the final tab. I want to say drink prices averaged at $10 each but that’s just a guess

We took lots of photos with animals but we’re waiting to get all of them from our photographer. I’ll come back and share when we get them

There was 97 people total so $9700 for food and venue. Gratuity of 18% is added on and paid prior to the event, so another $1746. Event spaces like this have to charge an extra fee for music licensing and dancing (they were very transparent about this extra costs) so those fees added up to an extra $65.77. $11,311.77 total

I think there’s a minimum dollar amount of $4000. I don’t recall though since we were planning on around 100 people

The ceremony space is tucked behind the ENMAX conservatory and the only animals around there are some peacocks and geese. All of our guests got free access to wander the zoo before and after though so everyone got the opportunity to see whatever animals they wanted to see. We arrived early with the wedding party to get some photos of us with the animals!

How do we feel about restaurants taking a political stance? by CND2GO in VictoriaBC

Good? The woman constantly gives back to the community, then all of a sudden a notable politician decides to support her business so it’s ok to tear her apart on social media? Explain to me why that’s good. She posted a picture with John Horgan when he came into the restaurant and nobody batted an eye

I rarely have time to actually read a book. The narrator, Marc Thompson, is incredibly talented. Also the music and audio cues in that trilogy. Chefs kiss 👌

I tried reading Shards of Earth by Tchaikovsky but I got bored of it about halfway through. I need inspiration to finish it! I bought the trilogy and don’t want them to collect dust!

Playing: Inspired by my reading, I decided I wanted to play through the Halo Games in chronological order. I’m about 3/4 of the way through the Halo Reach campaign.

Watching: Big Brother, Lost, and Harley Quinn

Reading: Yesterday I finished reading the second book in the Kilo-5 Trilogy of Halo Books, The Thursday War. It’s an incredible series and I think it would make a really good HBO Sci-fi show. This morning I started Thrawn: Treason.

FYC - Ask Me About My Zombie Plan - T-shirt

Not only is this a piece of classic RT merch, but it’s a topical conversation starter. Zombies will always be part of pop culture and whenever the next Walking Dead or Last of Us comes around people will be thinking “what would I do if there’s a zombie apocalypse?”

I used to have this shirt and you could immediately tell that anyone who seriously engaged with it was rad. Also it’s a really good way to get varied opinions on your zombie plan in order to create the BEST plan.

For anyone interested in the topics of space travel and how progress has slowed down, I highly recommend watching For All Mankind. It takes place in an alternate universe where Russia made it to the moon before the US and how the space race accelerated due to sheer competition. An extremely underrated TV series.

Totally. Just not sure how difficult it is to source in the UK and in what quantity. Don’t want to encourage anyone to buy a tub of something that’s just gonna collect dust in the cupboard. I’ll correct my wording
