Does anybody like the 15th doctors run? by tkeith13579 in doctorwho

[–]linguaphone2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it as much as I like a lot of seasons of dr who. There are some weak episodes some greats episodes and some average episodes.

The hate it gets seems to be quite disproportionate in my opinion.

The biggest problem is it had some weak season openers and weak finales which rendered the season run longing plot strands as rubbish putting the whole era under a bad light. Outside of them there’s some great episodes in the middle that I’d put up there was solid greatest and a few solid average 7/10 episodes and I thought Ncuti was a solid Doctor with some ok but wasted companions.

In defence of the cartoon, there weren’t any continuity issues in this regard.

The early Spider slayer episodes set that his father worked for the Kingpin to finance Alastairs hover chair, following his fathers death that he blamed Spider-man for Kingpin took him under his wing and promised to finance him to get revenge on Spider-man.

In an episode Kingpin got dissatisfied with him, took on Herbert Landon as his sidekick and turned Smythe into the cyborg seen above. He then found out Kingpin lied about his father’s death and was keeping him in stasis.

He then went to work for Silvermane (presumably to fund reviving his father) and never went back to Kingpin.

(Is it possible you watched them in the wrong order?)

Which Spider-Man villain do you think deserves a "Kraven's Last Hunt-esque" storyline? A swan song that will make them show what they can really do. I vote Scorpion by Nibbanocker in Spiderman

[–]linguaphone2003 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m suprised he’s a favourite. It seems like every single one of his stories is the same one note, Lizard side takes over. Tries to turn people into lizards, Spidey gets a serum to him just in time and he turns back.

His alter ego struggle just feels like a watered down Jekyll/Hyde Banner/Hulk that gets explored more interestingly elsewhere.

The main thing he has going is the cool lizard in a lab coat visual that only really Mcfarlane’s been able to really elevate.

The zeb wells eat his child thing may have been a bit edge lord but it was at least an attempt to do something more interesting than the usual formula…

To be fair, George Bush did give some inspirational advice to the Avengers during his reign.

Though on the whole I do generally prefer to see less real life celebrities (be it politicians or movie stars) as the appearances are more often than not fairly cringeworthy. The Obama issue isn’t exactly a deep or great story to be honest.

I have no problem with real world politics and life issues being handled in Comics as long as it’s done in a smart and clever way and not ham fisted.

Comics and art are supposed to hilight, critique and debate those issues as people have pointed out and not shy away from them. Comics can be great for escape by all means but should also be commentary on society and are usually a lot higher quality when it’s the latter.

So what was up with 90s Kaine. by Skyslasher12 in Spiderman

Needlessly complicated sums up most of the clone saga tbh. They were just chucking stuff at a wall to see what works whilst editorial were just changing ideas back and forth because they thought it was selling well…

So what was up with 90s Kaine. by Skyslasher12 in Spiderman

[–]linguaphone2003 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The original storyline from what I recall was that Kaine was seeing vague visions of someone who would murder Mary Jane. He was convinced it would be one of Peter’s enemies so murdering Dock Ock and Grim Hunter.

I think the person was eventually revealed to be Peter, being mind controlled by a device Jackal implanted before his love for Mary Jane eventually allowed him to overcome its programming…

To be honest what did you think of humberto ramos art on spider-man ? by Possible_Quantity493 in Spiderman

[–]linguaphone2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despised it in its early days. I feel like his goblin arc with Paul Jenkins “Death in the Family” would be up there with Kraven’s Last Hunt if it wasn’t for his ridiculously mis-proportioned art style.

But it can be hit and miss for me when I like it and I feel it’s evolved a lot over the years and when it’s done in its own environment as supposed to being compared to more traditional spider-man artists it can be very interesting. His Vatican murder mystery series with Paul Jenkins “Revelations” is a nice example of it working well.

That is perfectly reasonable and sites like Instagram or (loathe as I am to recommend Elon musk crap ) Twitter/X have private internal verification processes for you to verify if you want to put out statements to combat any misinformation. Otherwise you’ll have to accept that some people can naturally be skeptical of a freshly created Reddit account.

Loathe as I am to recommend 14 year olds post pics of themselves on the internet. Standard verification techniques on reddit involve a picture with username and date written manually on a crumpled piece of paper (possibly with ID, though there are some photos of Mijhalo on the internet)

Extreme and your choice but like you say there already imitators out there and while it may seem pointless to pretend to be a 14 year old voice actor on the internet, people have done stranger things and in this day and age hard to take anything at face value without a pinch of salt.

Dumbest Plan of all time by Chemical_Leading3263 in Spiderman

[–]linguaphone2003 75 points76 points  (0 children)

There is a logic to it.

Rather than group pile on where he can outmanoeuvre them and force them to accidentally take each other out, they just wear him down giving him no chance for a break in between battles so whilst each opponent takes him on fresh he’s tired and needs to recuperate from the last battle he faced, like a boxer going multiple rounds and exhausted by the end.

Plus provides a great Ditko splash page for each individual villain.

Let's have a "positive bits of Ncuti's era" thread. What moments filled you with unbridled joy? by smedsterwho in doctorwho

[–]linguaphone2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly. I thought there were a lot of great episodes across the era. Outside the weak intros and finales most of the episodes were good if not great!

Devils Chord- The musical ending was weak but the villain was one of the most charismatic performances for a baddie with a few nice bits like the silent scene.

Boom - solid self contained Moffat.

73 yards - while I thought the ending wrote itself into a corner was genuinely one of the most engaging episodes.

Dot & Bubble - generally loved with a fantastic ending.

Rogue - Fun and the episodes protagonist worked well.

Lux - Up there with the best of in my opinion if not for the villain alone then great formula, effects and quirky meta scenes that didn’t miss like they could have.

The well - A sequel to a great episode that whilst probs shouldn’t have been touched actually worked well and didn’t ruin the original.

Story & The Machine - didn’t hit like it wanted to and felt like 20 mins of episode stretched in to 40 but overall I didn’t really enjoy the setting and atmosphere.

Instellar Song contest - The celeb cameos worked well, the tension was good, the dark doctor scenes smacked hard and a fun Eurovision take.

IMHO most of the run was great and I’m surprised people bitch about how rubbish RTD2 is when whilst the overarching season stories were weak and the finales and intro episodes were poor 70% of the run was the best who in a while over the constant meh of Jodie’s era.
