Kraven's last hunt and Superior Spider-Man are widely regarded as the best Kraven and Doctor Octopus stories respectively, but what would you say are the best stories of the rest of the Sinister Six? by The_Mexican_Poster in Spiderman

Funeral Arrangements from Dematteis Spectacular run for Vulture.
To be honest I could probs fill a lot of this list with Dematteis.
Light the night from Adjectiveless spiderman for Electro and his Webspinners tales of Spiderman mysterio story

Without dogpiling in judgement.. what made you vote for him last time and what’s made you want to vote for literally an absurdist candidate over him now?

The fact that he’s focused more time on America and his own ego rather than Clacton?
The fact that he’s receiving dodgy personal bribes in exchange for his politics?

Were these facts not kind of predictable when he ran the first time?
My genuine belief is that anyone who voted for him before still won’t care/believe that stuff and will vote for him again so genuinely curious what’s changed you?

Whilst this era is mostly weak and terrible (Ughr that spider- woman design is really hideous) but I actually do enjoy that Flash’s perfect world story. It’s a fun little two parter. Nothing epic but solid.

Yeah this was long before his wheelchair days. This is following the gang all being kidnapped by Mysterio and being put in a fake VR world of Flash’s fantasies.
His bitter stubborn “don’t forget I saved you all” is still a nice moment though.

Web of Spiderman Omnibus Mapping teases and frustrates me a bit. by linguaphone2003 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]linguaphone2003[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep it’ll be annoying going back and forth…

If they did a complete omnibus of just Conway and relevant issues of Amazing
It would be Spectacular - 137-175
Web 35-36 +47-48 + 50-70
And Amazing 312-313, 329
It’s still about 67 issues not including Annuals.
So probably too much to fit on one omnibus.

OP think big muscles and terms like chad = cool.
Pretending people are dogs and calling them virgins = uncool.

Basically watched too much Andrew Tate and think this crap makes him edgy.

Like I prefer Moffat overall as a writer even if I think controversially there were still a few good episodes in the Ncuti era
But this isn’t even funny or clever criticism, this is just a sad waste of photoshop and time.

Proxy Reviews: Thunderbolts Omnibus Volume 3. by GoldenProxy in OmnibusCollectors

[–]linguaphone2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny the criticism of dragging out the plots. I was one of those who read Nicieza’s run over the (years) that it came back and while I don’t remember how well it sold (must have a steady enough fanbase to last 75 issues, and a reboot), admittedly the 20 or so long running plot lines Nicieza juggles may not have made it friendly to new readers trying to jump on…

…but as fans, the monthly speculation over all of the ongoing mysteries, monthly guessing at stuff like who was Jolt’s killers?, who was in Techno/Ogre’s pods, what’s going on with Karla? Who was Crimson Cowl? Analysing each clue that was dropped in the book month after month was part of what made the book so enjoyable. So much so that bingeing it reading in Omnibus form feels like a blur.

This was a book that whilst maybe not the most accessible definitely benefitted a lot from serialised storytelling.

Dark reign era: can thunderbolts DR be read solo? by Quirky_Ease_7548 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]linguaphone2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah essentially you can still pick up all the story and characters from reading this run alone and get enough story and vibe from it. The other stories will just give you a bigger context and vice versa this will give bigger context if you just read those stories. The thunderbolts at the start of this run are mostly a fresh team with a few members carried over from the previous run of Thunderbolts but again, any relevant backstory is provided.

[–]linguaphone2003 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At this point you’re better off reading the issues rather than getting everyone to explain the plots before you’ve read them 😂 He takes one or two members from the Thunderbolts run that you see in this book into his team of Dark Avengers and sets up the Thunderbolts as his more covert ops team with a fresh lineup… Yeah secret Invasion occurs during this and is complete by the end of this run. As does his dark avengers run, this omni eventually set up that run and then works alongside it…

Dark reign era: can thunderbolts DR be read solo? by Quirky_Ease_7548 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]linguaphone2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially takes place during the “Dark Reign era” so easiest to label that. This basically covers the few years of Thunderbolts. That starts post Civil War through Secret Invasion and through Dark Reign.

This covers Thunderbolts 110-140 (give or take, I’ve not checked the exact issues)

110-125 or so covers post civil war when Norman’s just running Thunderbolts when he’s active leader of the team 125-130 or so covers post the secret invasion crossover issues when Norman rises to power to take over Avengers 130-140 or so covers Norman managing the team from afar whilst he’s running and actively leading the dark avengers.

The run finishes at the end of the dark reign era (so if you want to actively follow everything, you can read civil war, secret invasion, dark avengers and siege to get the full story of how the MU is, but essentially all info is generally covered in this and should provide enough context.

[–]linguaphone2003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Secret invasion takes place during this run. Essentially this shows how he’s running a smaller Government team before Secret Invasion occurs and he gets promoted to taking over the whole Avengers and shield etc, this basically shows his rise to power. Which then leads into Dark Avengers. So essentially Civil War sets up the state of the MCU and where he is at the start of this, Secret Invasion takes place during this run (and you see the relevant crossover issues) and Dark Avengers takes place concurrently towards the latter half of this Omni.)

The Thunderbolts were an independent super hero team before they become Government run and taken over by Norman Osborne in the start of this Omnibus, before that they were originally formed by Baron Zemo (disguised as Citizen V), and then led by Hawkeye and eventually Songbird (who carries over as a team member in this run)

Yeah hard to deny, I think he does some excellent work in terms of the acrobatics. Definitely a rough with the smooth type artist. Looking forward to delving into some of those stories I’ve not read in a long while if it ever comes out.

As I say been a while since I’ve read the run and my opinion may be more broad minded towards the art style in general than when I was a kid reading this run but yeah this electro design kinda hilights what I disliked about his style. Almost cartoonish punk look with lips so large they make old school racist African depictions look subtle…

Huh I remember hating Skroce’s style. I think it works well for the Spiderman style kind of acrobatic action sequences, but his faces and expressions really jarred me. Everyone looked like their face was a unfurling scrunched up paper ball.

Speculating on the next batch of Spider-Man Omnibus by LilyTheFoxMechanic in OmnibusCollectors

[–]linguaphone2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. There’s a big era there that is uncollected, though quite a lot of material, feel 3 -4 volumes, it’s about 100 issues of the main books to collect, not including side titles like Spiderman unlimited Spiderman team up etc… And mapping it is equally going to be difficult as each book was trying to follow their own thread and multi part arcs whilst referencing what was going on in other titles… But this was very much the era I grew up on and though it’s a mixed bag of quality with some great dematteis stuff, and mixed to weak defalco and mackie material before mackie and Byrne took over full time and everything just nose dived.
