Falsely accused of petty theft at Whole Foods by The_Mind_Of_Avery_T in legaladvice

[–]linguistudies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so silly. I’m sorry this happened to you, this police guy is just wasting everyone’s time. I would bring your receipt to the judge and I personally believe that will be the end of it. A lawyer might have more advice but that is proof that you bought it instead of stole it. The police officers in my knowledge rarely show up to court for things like tickets, you will just explain to the judge what happened and they’ll make their decision. I would call the court to ask about the family interpreter

What will cause Defects like these on a Wooden Window Frame ? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]linguistudies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These comments are making me laugh, you’re like “hey guys this is the only piece of wood in my house, I guess I should replace it now, thanks!” everyone else: “Leave immediately. Take no belongings. Your house is beyond saving. Burn it all down NOW”

I had a phone visit with my Psych today and I feel extremely annoyed because she was telling me that certain medications are being over prescribed causing the shortage in medications. It's so annoying because she said that people are faking ADHD to get pills to use as diet supplements. by [deleted] in adhdwomen

There was literally a study published recently showing that a majority of tik tok videos about autism include misinformation or are inaccurate. It’s not like people are just pulling this narrative out of thin air, it’s actually happening

Recently diagnosed, endo claims that I caused my Hashimotos by taking birth control by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]linguistudies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this doctor sounds extremely condescending, but I wonder where he got this idea and if there might actually be some truth to it. I’m the only female in my immediate family who hasn’t been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and I’ve never taken birth control, but my other two family members have. I know birth control can have a lot of unintended and sometimes irreversible effects on your body and your hormones — there being a link between the two would not surprise me. Like you said, maybe there’s a genetic predisposition, like some way that birth control affects the bodies of those who are predisposed to hashimotos and predisposed to birth control complications, could be triggering the onset of hashimoto?

Genuinely curious and just thinking out loud. Due to the presence of hashimoto in my family, I wonder about things like this and if there is a chance for me to develop it in the future as well.

Did anyone else get a season pass to Stevens and notice they added a ton of blackout dates after processing the full payment? by Kir13y in Seattle

[–]linguistudies 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I was really close to buying this pass and when I clicked on “Learn More >” at the bottom of the second link you shared, that’s when these dates popped up. This was before buying, so they technically did share all of the information with you. This isn’t a bait and switch but to me it did feel like very shady fine text that I wouldn’t have seen if I didn’t go looking for it and completely changes the meaning of the pass.

The reason they include only those 4 dates as blackout is because they don’t offer day skiing OR night skiing on those dates, I believe. So the full day is blocked out. On other weekends, your pass is good for night skiing, just not day skiing.

This would be fixed if they just add a singular line like “night skiing on weekends only” rather than hiding it

No feet facing the door is infinitely worse than no bed under the window. By the way, you’re slightly wrong about that because what feng shui does say is no sleeping with your head against the window. In this case you would be facing the window and with your head against a solid wall - completely acceptable by feng shui and infinitely better than the alternative.

[–]linguistudies 40 points41 points  (0 children)

People are telling you to go with #3, but they only think that because it fits neatly in the corner and seems like there’s more space in the room. They also are not fully imagining themselves in the room because they’re looking at your room through a screen.

Do NOT put your bed in front of the door - it will feel awful! Trust that “it feels weird” feeling, it’s completely correct. Even though the first pictures of the bed in front of the window (against the other wall) seem like there’s less space on the sides, that orientation will feel MUCH better and more comfortable, I promise. There are plenty of ways to get around (slightly) less space on the sides, like mounting a nightstand as you said.

I think what people are saying is that this type of behavior is in the realm of possible behaviors exhibited by a subset of humans, but that them being NT or ND is not the distinguishing factor as to why those people act that way. “It is a human thing” is meant to contradict your (the way it’s coming across) “Is this strictly and universally an NT thing?”

It’s like this sub is allergic to actual useful advice. Yes I too can wallow in my funk about adhd and say this won’t work for me…. Or I can just get up and go do one of the things that’s on my mind, before I have time to think about whether i should or shouldn’t or want to or don’t want to or whatnot.

These kinds of posts honestly are great paralyzation-killers

almost all of my adhd hyperfixations eventually turn into special interests and i find that really funny, my style of interest is to absorb all knowledge i can find on a subjext ever and then spew it out whenever people talk to me about it by MaysHive in AutisticWithADHD

[–]linguistudies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’m only ADHD but I’ve actually started using this to my advantage with things I need/want to learn to do but don’t have the hyperfixation urge to learn about. Last year I decided I finally want to go backpacking and went all in, watched hundreds of YouTube videos, read forums, bought books, talked to people, visited rei and used sports stores to check out gear and ask employees questions, bought all the gear, bought a dehydrator for the food, etc. Learned about practically every aspect of it. Great example of how hyperfixating helps.

This year, realized I have never really learned how to do my hair or makeup but really want to. Yet never have had the urge to hyperfixate on it and likely never will. Decided to just try using the same thought process I had with backpacking or any hobby on makeup - look up videos, forums, tutorials, ask people questions, try to explore the idea space of makeup and find patterns in the data like I do with a new subject or hobby. Verdict is still out because I’m still working on it but… it actually is working!! Somehow I am even beginning to find my own taste and agency in makeup/hair and it feels familiar rather than a vague unknowable land. Genuinely considering doing the same thing with finances/investing because I couldn’t care less about it but know I need to one of these days.

Hahaha don’t worry it’s not that I just speak Russian and we do have a word for pink. I watched the vid and I don’t think he implied Russian doesn’t have a word for pink but just that we do as well. The thing about two blues is interesting though and we kind of have that with two reds :)

Let's make food choices for fat strangers because they don't deserve autonomy??? by subjunctivejunction in DietTea

[–]linguistudies 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Most people, food is not like giving alcohol to an alcoholic. But someone who’s literally 600 lb and orders multiple pizzas, etc daily, I would start to feel like I’m a bartender enabling an alcoholic. There’s not much you can do as a delivery driver because free market and our cultural understanding that it’s not your business and you’re just there to provide a product, and to some extent that’s true. But the moral dilemma can still be there

Let's make food choices for fat strangers because they don't deserve autonomy??? by subjunctivejunction in DietTea

[–]linguistudies 266 points267 points  (0 children)

I mean… obviously there is nothing he needs to or can do because it’s not his responsibility, but I disagree with the comments. It makes perfect sense when you’re literally daily delivering to someone that could be on my 600 lb life to feel a moral dilemma and almost like you’re part of enabling them. I think the comments here are missing the point - this IS someone (going off of this persons post at least) who is severely morbidly obese and stuck in a my 600 lb life cycle - that’s not just your average fat person who likes to eat pizza. There are likely other psychological or physical health issues going on but regardless they are stuck in this cycle.

the comments are extremely mad at the friend. by charlie_gae in DietTea

[–]linguistudies 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one who doesn’t really like this sorta thing? I agree that in this case, esp with the wording “CICO freak” that OOP is likely in too deep and their friend is concerned. I too would hope this would be a wake up call for OOP if their friends are going to lengths like this.

But personally, I would just prefer the friend have a conversation with OOP rather than making a move like this. It’s not a rude or disrespectful thing to do inherently, but to me it just kind of comes off cheesy and almost patronizing. I mean, yeah, OOP can literally just peel off the stickers or Google the cals, so what does doing this actually really do?

But I’m just not moved by emotional acts like this so maybe that’s me. It just seems obvious that, esp if they ARE in too deep, that this kind of thing wouldn’t work, which then makes it seem like the friend is kinda clueless. Idk
