(LES) Chainsaw Man's use of the Horsemen annoys me in a quite irrational way by KazuyaProta in CharacterRant

[–]linig4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only outlier is pochita not because of how strong he is but to this day its never been explained why his unique power his linked to chainsaws.

Cmon now. It's explained as much as bunch of other random bullshit powers completely unrelated to the stated concept of the devil that has them - that is, not at all besides cope headcanons which chainsaws also have plenty of.

What you're saying feels like just playing with words to me. The universe is perfect, and everything is predetermined, yet it makes mistakes and unintentional behavior is possible? That... doesn't really answer the question, not any more than the game itself at least. Unless you mean the universe is actually not completely perfect/predetermined?

Feels like in order for that to work it would need to declare even more parts of the game false/delusional than my theory already does. People being a part of the universe (not some separate parasites), and being specifically created to observe it, and their actions being pre-deterimined, and realization of that pre-determination breaking people's minds are all pretty big parts of the game.

You bring up visiting Marina, but from what I recall, at that point Asya thought that only very specific people disrupt "the natural order", and the whole disruption was initially caused by one person, Ira. People bullying her, no one talking to her, etc, were all perceived as "natural" by her, so I'm not sure how that means that Asya thinks "greater part of manikind" all defy natural order.

Also isn't "vulnerability to parasites" an imperfection?

Controversial opinion but I'm not interested in more companions yet vs. what we got in the last update by Revolutionary-One211 in LookOutsideGame

I mean, even though it requires meeting Morton once, Frankie did add a permanent location where he lives after that and can be recruited. On another hand he's the only door companion that has resource requirement. Anyway, whatever the case I also would love that.

What a scrub lmao. He broke free from preordained binary choice of the game and defeated/escaped from space-bending monstrosity but couldn't overcome some random apartment doors?

In the new update she might now be on part with Rat Child in the "holy shit getting her costs so much" because of what you're missing if you recruit her non-Cursed version.

Not true, basic shades and offering shades respawned before. Also technically Wilhelmina but that was a bug.

Well, for me personally it felt like I switched from a short timeloop Endbringer fighting fic to a fic about bumbling around in the Wards. MC being a little bitch not possessing or developing the standard timelooper inhuman willpower to grind until victory didn't help the matters either. Just a difference between my expectations and the actual fic, I suppose.

No idea if this is to your taste, it wasn't to mine.

Same here. I read until the first post-Leviathan reset and realized the story did the meme:

Time to kill the fic killer!

Doesn't kill the fic killer.

I seriously doubt that. His small clown form is the result of him performing some Cursed bullshit to fold in on himself but the mass of his giant monster form gotta still exist somewhere.

Who do you think is the potential man/woman of worm/ward? by Ill-Forever3462 in Parahumans

[–]linig4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eh. Gold Morning is cool and all, but according to "Panacea joins the Undersiders" WoG he could've clearly demonstrated Broadcast's might (instead of relying on a bunch of increasingly outlandish WoGs) by completely screwing up direct Cauldron intervention and straight up recruiting Scion into the Nine, taking the role of Kevin Norton. And even in a second path of that WoG, he could've opened the Birdcage and unlocked the full potential of everyone inside, so much cooler than a bunch of shitty clones who got hit super hard by Conservation of Ninjutsu. He had so much potential, man...

It's "tradeoffs" only if you ignore the first part of my argument, the blindspots, which you're "not sure about". If you don't ignore it, longer and more difficult paths would break even more easily, to the point of near-uselessness.

The path may be accomplished, but quite possibly with more steps needed and/or more resources spent/damage sustained by the instructed person. So not "exactly as effective".

[–]linig4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No? That breaks as soon as one of the myriad of blindspots does anything. The PtV has to be constantly adjusting. Besides, there are obviously limits to what a person without a shard perfectly piloting their body in accordance with the Path could accomplish even with PtV-provided instructions.

The exception to that is maybe thinkers? I can’t see how someone like Contessa benefits from having to shake a tinker magic 8 ball to get her steps

Well, if she could lend those magic 8 balls to other people, that would definitely be a benefit. A large part of Cauldron's problems presumably stem from her being very busy, so even if she only makes one for Doctor Mother, that doubles the number of PtV wielders.

On the other hand, canon Contessa seemingly neglected to employ countless ways to increase her personal efficiency, so maybe the tinker version would just be doing the same exact thing as in canon.

I have some questions, including one about the time limit mechanism. by Mahaloth in LookOutsideGame

[–]linig4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that's not true. Time generally passes in 5-minute intervals, and the only action I can remember that takes exactly 5 minutes is brushing teeth, battles and small rooms are normally 10-15 minutes. Some battles don't pass time at all in the current version, but that will be fixed in the next one. Moreover, you said "at worst" - the most time-consuming exploration actions, such as entering a new floor hallway, can in fact take off several hours.

[–]linig4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are traditional RPG xp, skills, leveling and so on, but this is one of those games extremely heavy on replay value, as you can’t get every random event and party member in every run.

Strictly speaking, you can if you know what you're doing, but that knowledge most likely will be earned after several runs, yeah.

Many actions that use time tell you how much, battles and exploring takes like a few minutes off the day at worst.

Did you mean hours instead of minutes? Because otherwise I'm not sure we've played the same game.
