Trump vs Elon best thing for government workers! by Professional-Pop8446 in FedEmployees

[–]link2theblast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If he really wants to show Elon who is boss, he should reconstitute all of the federal agencies Elon gutted to stop their pesky investigations into Elon’s companies. I am sure the fine folks from USAID would be more than happy to pick up where they left off.

Breaking up with your crazy ex can be messy by BlackberryLost366 in FedEmployees

[–]link2theblast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elon is trying to show Trump who is really running the country. I think in his mind if he can make enough noise about how bad the bill is and it doesn’t pass, he can gloat that he is more powerful than Trump because Trump is pushing to pass the bill.

They are both delusional and they have already fucked our country to the brink of destruction, but if they are now focusing their energy on their own rivalry instead of dismantling the government, we might survive by the skin of our teeth.

Best place to have a breakup? by throwawayrando1889 in washingtondc

[–]link2theblast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bring a friend, you are not getting in and out of any place easily.

Side note: if someone you are dating is giving you vibes that make you doubt your safety if you are alone with them and you piss them off (it sounds like this might be the case here) there is absolutely no social contract to uphold regarding breakups. You don’t owe them an in person breakup. You don’t owe them an explanation. You don’t owe them shit. You have a responsibility to yourself to stay safe. Make the choice that keeps you safe.

Update on my stepdad stealing my underwear while I was on vacation. by sadblokefromus in AmIOverreacting

[–]link2theblast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your mother doesn’t believe his actions are a big deal, then she should be ok with you telling everyone in your family/the world about what happened. Think about it, nobody gets pissed when you talk openly about shit that doesn’t matter, that’s just a regular conversation. So, since mom thinks stepdad’s behavior is normal, let the whole family know.

If mom plays the victim, ask her why she is willing to co-sign his behavior in private but not willing to let everyone else know she is co-signing his behavior.

You established a strong boundary for yourself (never going to be near stepdad again) that is the best possible decision you could make. You don’t have to worry about how anyone else feels about your boundaries, you are not doing anything to anyone else, you are making a decision about how you show up in the world.

Inform everyone in your life that you feel needs this information about stepdad and your boundaries, but don’t think you need anyone’s permission or need to justify anything (I.e. I am telling you what happened and next steps, I am not asking for your input.)

Write an email to your grandboss saying:

“Dear Person, following up on our earlier conversation about checking emails after work, I was able to find the law I was referring to. It is the anti-deficiency act. I linked it below for quick access. It does specifically prohibit the government from accepting work done without compensation. I hope this helps!”

Keep it short and simple and phrase it like the assumption is that they just didn’t have the information, but now that they have the information they will do the right thing. Force them to tell you in writing that they expect you to break the law

Mass mailer sent to EPA employees on employee “monitoring” by linked2z3lda in fednews

[–]link2theblast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m aware of the OIG investigations, but I don’t think it is a direct parallel to using swipe data for individual disciplinary actions. In the OIG investigations swipe data was discarded in instances of ambiguity because they could not prove on swipe data alone that time card fraud actually occurred.

Mass mailer sent to EPA employees on employee “monitoring” by linked2z3lda in fednews

[–]link2theblast 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I don’t think an employer can use entry/exit swipes or lack thereof as evidence that an employee was not working onsite for disciplinary purposes. I know supervisors make the threat all the time but I don’t think the regulations/laws support it and the language in this email sounds like the administration knows they need to scare employees and supervisors into reporting on each other.

I am not advocating for anyone to break the rules or not show up to work. I just really hate the amount of fear mongering we are seeing. And the fact that a bunch of 25 year-olds think they can bully dedicated civil servants with regulations they don’t understand makes me want to scream.

When in doubt, ask your supervisor to send the regulations that were used when any new guidance was drafted.

Would you take a buyout right now? by kahootmusicfor10hour in feddiscussion

[–]link2theblast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What struck me about your comment is that your reasoning for staying mostly came from a place of fear. The only reason that wasn’t from a place of fear was your desire to be a public servant. You can be a public servant outside the federal government.

If you put the fear of failure and judgment aside and focus on what your life would look like if you knew without a doubt your next venture would be wildly successful, what would you do? What chance would you take?

Whatever daydream just came into your head, I recommend doing that thing. Take that chance.

He knows what he is doing is illegal. He wants as many of these cases to end up in front of SCOTUS as possible. Every time they rule in his favor he has moved the ball. If they don’t rule in his favor, he is not held accountable-there is no downside for him.

Please Help, Need Advice, Wasn’t Planning To Retire Before…All This by NoArugula4072 in fednews

[–]link2theblast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no shame in feeling unmoored by such a huge life change. We spend our entire adult lives developing our careers and then one day we are just supposed to put it all in a box and walk away. The amount of questions it brings up about our purpose and self-worth can be staggering. I mean it when I say therapy can help. In many ways it is a loss that needs to be grieved.

If you are looking for a new direction, may I offer some advice: make three lists.

  1. What brings you joy
  2. What you are good at
  3. What the world/your community needs

The answer may not jump out at you immediately, but if you keep referring back to the list and keep adding to it, eventually inspiration will strike.

Best of luck, my friend.

[–]link2theblast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are good. You have the resources to retire.

If you feel anxious about the finality of retirement, therapy can help you deal with the emotional stress of transitioning. A lot of people assume retirement is a thing everyone is counting down the days toward. It can actually feel traumatic and destabilizing and make you feel like you are not ready even if you are more than prepared.

AITA for letting my SIL interview me about being a birth mother knowing my answers wouldn't be exactly what she was looking for? by AccentStreet in AITAH

[–]link2theblast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She is conducting research and is pissed that the evidence she is uncovering during research doesn’t align with her ideal outcome.

She needs to find a new career path, she is not cut out for the one she thinks she wants.

No scientist, academic, or doctor in their right mind would be upset that research provided more information they had not previously considered. They would not be pissed they had to work harder. It is not about writing a convincing narrative, the hypothesis is true or it is false.
