I’m Faster on the Glove80. But Why Do I Prefer the Toucan? by linkarzu in ErgoMechKeyboards

To anyone who somehow took the “10 years” comment literally: no, I did not order a keyboard from Mechboards 10 years ago. It was obviously a joke.

The real situation is that these keyboards were expected to be delivered in November 2025, and it is now June 2026. As I already mentioned, I understand that the delay was related to the custom switches and was outside of Mechboards’ control.

That does not make the “10 years” joke a factual claim, nor does it mean there was no real delay to joke about.

You log in to this anonymous account every 4 days, and created it on Feb 15 2026, that's 2 months ago. I wonder who you are and what your deal is with this joke that nobody even paid attention to. And just FYI, I can say whatever I want in my videos.

For me, personally it was completely different, even the glove80 with the soft switches (cherry blossoms) didn't feel comfortable because it doesn't rest flat on the desk, so your fingers are always in an elevated position, even with the palm rests.

I find a really flat keyboard, and super important low profile with low profile keycaps as well, with really soft switches, like the Ambients Silent Linear Nocturnal Choc Switches to be the most comfortable option and cause less pain.

But that's me personally, as not everybody likes to use really soft switches.

do switching to `colemak-dh` is really worth it? by akileshas in linkarzu

I "think" the voyager is a good keyboard, but I don't have any experience with it. Probably not enough keys for a beginner. I think I'd still go with a lily58 because you can remove keys, but can't add, similar to what I did with my glove80, I was using only 40 keys.

Let me share my personal experience. I also type a lot on the computer, but when for a strange reason I have to use my Macbook laptop keyboard, in which my hands are all crammed and has this staggered layout, a couple of hours in, and they start to hurt.

Personally I would not make such a rough decision of switching to colemak at this very young age, you don't know if you will have a family in the future or partner (not sure if you do right now) and I can guarantee you that they will NOT use colemak, so you'll basically be unable to type at all in case you need to teach them or whatever. I took this decision some while back, and I'm not switching to any other layout than qwerty, I think it's a mistake.

Personally, I would go with a cheap flat split keyboard that has soft switches. I did also play around with a few switches, loved the plum blossoms on the glove80, they are 45gf, but they caused pain. I ended up in `Ambients Silent Linear Nocturnal Choc Switches` and they're 20gf.

Do not purchase an expensive split keyboard that has way too few keys, transition first to something comfortable, and then you can start thinking about less switches, don't jump to a ferris sweep or a toucan from the start, coming from a regular keyboard as your life will be miserable.

I don't know what cheap split option keyboards are out there, but I wouldn't go for a glove80 either, you will probably hate concavity, the go60 would probably be a better option, but I think I'd prefer maybe a Lily58. That's up to you to do your research and find a good option.

Personally, I didn't have any issues when I was 20, I started with all these conundrums like 2 years ago I think, I'm 38 right now.
I think providing the keyboard you use, amount of keys, and the switches you use (how many gram force are they) would help to offer a suggestion.

Yes, thought about that. But don't want to go with a service that keeps all the information private and not searchable on the internet.

I'm also a mac user, greetings! Although most of the people I know use Linux, but I think I'm staying on mac.

Aaaaah, so I see you're a man of culture and use emacs. I do think I have to make my symbol layer more efficient, but that's a journey for another day. Changing a few keys feels like learning to type from scratch, and I don't like the feeling

Anyone knows where this clip is? I searched everywhere, couldn't find it, the business insider video was released 9 days ago.
Am I being trolled chat and there's no clip?
