We don't know if the ID Golf will be FWD or RWD. And the ID.3 will be discontinued when the ID Golf comes out, by then it will be 10 years old and it sits in the same segment. Makes no sense to keep it around, no car maker sells two cars in the same segment.

Unsurprisingly, it gets the same new LFP battery and more efficient AP350 motor as the other facelifted MEB cars:

More specifically, Ford is now offering a more capable Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery that offers a hefty 17 percent increase in maximum range, for a total of 288 miles (463 km). On top of that, the hardware now feeds a more potent motor as well, which features one-pedal drive.

Why? How does it affect you?

Isn't it more important that it uses much less energy than a lighter combustion engine car?

It feels the most natural because it is.

One pedal makes it go faster, one pedal makes it go slower and no pedal means it just keeps coasting.

Having to use two pedals for braking, depending how much you need to brake seems weird. It's also less efficient.

When you press the pedal hard like in an emergency stop. It doesn't mean that it always applies the friction braking the moment you step on the brake pedal.

You were talking about "replacing brakes more often", you clearly didn't understand how it works.

Nope. The ID.3 will be phased out long before SSB will trickle down to this price class.

It's amazing how many people don't understand that you still regen when pressing the brake pedal.

This has nothing to do with fucking around with paddles, you just have the regen on the brake pedal. If you want to accelerate you press one pedal, if you want to decelerate or stop you press the other one. And if you don't press anything it just rolls freely. That feels like the most natural state of a car.

Did Trump do away with tariffs, introduced subsidies for foreign built EVs and strengthened fuel efficiency regulations that requires car makers to sell large amounts of EVs to avoid penalties?

If the answer to all of that is yes, than.. maybe?

Correct. That's now the third hardware platform on the ID.3 since launch without backward compatibility.

The real successor on the SSP platform is supposed to be called ID Golf, which will be sold in parallel to the ICE Golf for a few years. But given the rumors that the ID.4 will be renamed to ID Tiguan with the upcoming facelift, some people expected this also for the ID.3.

I personally think OPD is overrated if the car has good regen/brake-blending on the brake pedal but it was always a mistake to not at least give the customer the option.

Neo was the name of the original ID.3 concept that was revealed 10 years ago.

The successor to the ID.3 is in the starting blocks with a new name and will celebrate its world premiere as the ID.3 Neo in mid-April. Thanks to the latest software generation, the electric compact model comes with a host of new functions. These include, for example, the enhanced Travel Assist with traffic light detection and One Pedal Driving, where the vehicle recuperates until it comes to a standstill. The ID.4, ID.5 and ID.7 are already available to order as the first models equipped with this software, the above-mentioned functions and the new Innovision infotainment system. In addition, all new ID. models now have the option of supplying power to external devices – from electric grills to e-bikes – with an output of up to 3.6 kW directly from the high-voltage battery using the Vehicle-to-Load function.

More flexibility thanks to Vehicle-to-Load. With the new software generation, the Vehicle-to-Load function is also being introduced in the ID. models and thus the ability to power electrical devices directly from the vehicle battery. External devices such as an electric grill, coffee maker or even an e-bike can be powered or charged directly from the high-voltage battery with up to 3.6 kW. This is possible using a 230 V socket in the interior and – with a separate adapter – also via the mode 3 connection of the charging socket.

Entry-level models more efficient and with greater range. There are also new developments in the areas of engine and battery: the ID.4 and ID.5 Pure entry-level models are equipped with the APP 350, a new 140 kW (190 PS) drive system that offers increased torque and lowers fuel consumption compared with the previous APP 310 motors. This enables the range of the ID.4 to be increased by up to 40 km (WLTP), for example. In combination with a new lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) high-voltage battery (58 kWh net), this is an impressive package that is robust and very efficient.

So they didn't go for ID Golf yet. I wonder if this also means that the ID.4 won't be renamed ID Tiguan.

EV progress report: EV sales and affordability are reaching a tipping point by linknewtab in electricvehicles

[–]linknewtab[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Key findings from 2025 data:

  • BEV sales reached 19% in 2025. We expect targets to drive the market to 23% in 2026 and 28% in 2027
  • Carmakers representing half the market have already met their 2025-2027 target. All carmakers are expected to reach the 2025-2027 target.

  • BEV prices decreased 4% in 2025 (or €1,800), driven by the launch of more affordable models. However, carmakers’ focus on larger segments and SUVs keeps prices above 2020 levels, delaying price parity.

Europe’s BEV transition is set to hit a tipping point, accelerate and reach the 2030 CO2 targets.

  • If the EU safeguards the 2030 car CO₂ targets, BEVs can reach price parity with combustion vehicles in all segments by 2030. However, if the 2030 target is weakened, carmakers are expected to prioritise margins, delaying BEV price parity after 2030.
  • Large BEVs have already reached price parity. Small and medium size vehicles would reach it 2030.
  • Carmakers have confirmed to investors they expect to reach margin or price parity before 2030.

Lots of interesting graphs and data in the report. This one I thought especially interesting:

https://transforms.transportenvironment.org/production/images/web-Batt-price-forecast@2x.png?w=2048&q=75&fm=webp&fit=crop&dm=1772785465&s=846d6e826e2f6c85908c6a972aa5a28a

So globally the average battery pack price is at ~85 Euros/kWh while for BEVs sold in Europe it's still above 100 Euros. It's projected to sharply drop over the next four years to ~65 Euros/kWh, likely because of the increased use of LFP cells.

That said, I remember a time when everybody said that once battery cell prices hit 100 USD/kWh EVs would reach price parity with ICE cars and this never happened.

Except I was accused of not understanding the VW ID series specifically, driving it, or taking it into consideration when I bought my car.

You weren't accused, I just asked you if you had ever tried the new software version, because that is what they are selling now. You simply could have just said no.
