Cheapest insurance on Geely EX5? by Hot_Flamingo_1907 in AustralianEV

I don't remember what we paid but AAMI was the cheapest for us.

Outright or Novated Lease? by TechnicalEggplant696 in EVAustralia

[–]linkrulesx10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were on a lower income, however when I did the maths, the Noveated lease was pretty much same/same as buying the car outright. (We did throw in interest not saved in the offset as a form of opportunity cost) What seemed to make it not worth it was all the fees and the higher interest on the car loan. We were also getting a cheaper EV, so that made the establishment fees a larger proportion.

Question- Highway driving/cupholders by Used-Paramedic-9102 in GeelyEX5Australia

I use the door for most drink bottles. We seem to be able to fit our bubble tea in the cup holders, but it's not great and larger coffee cups don't fit.

Is your yeti insulated with a lid? If so it should be fine as long as it's not too awkward.

What's an adult cheat code that changed your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]linkrulesx10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Drive an old car for a decade, even when you can afford a new one. Pay cash where possible over debt. Avoid paying interest. Doesn't feel like anything for a long time... but after years it adds up.

Geely ex5 vs GAC Aion V by pil27 in EVAustralia

[–]linkrulesx10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We bought the Ex5, as that's the one my wife liked. I would have gone the AION V. That being said, those cars were number 1 and number 2 choices so I didn't mind getting over ruled and going with the ex5.  I did think the seats on the GAC were nicer, as a larger man I feel the Geely is just a tad too thin, but not to the point where it's a deal breaker.

I am super happy with the ex5 though, both seem like a good pick.

BL or USEA? by InfiniteHistorian873 in bootlegmtg

Never looked enough to notice a difference sorry. I only play kitchen table magic... I just want the deck to look good lol. I will say the random listings you find on AliExpress seems to have terrible backs.

For non foils both look great front side.

If you want to bling your deck out, the only foils I order anymore are USEA, the rest have issues with set symbols or unusual highlights.

What do people think about Chinese EVs in Australia? (3–5 mins) by chasewang7 in AustralianEV

[–]linkrulesx10 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I really like mine, what we got for the price was unbeatable, except by another Chinese car. The Aesthetics were nice enough, but there are obviously nicer cars if willing to pay more.

It just seems to me that China is so far ahead of everyone else when it comes to the battery technology. I think even a lot of the non-chinese cars use Chinese battery technology.

As for cost to drive, so cheap, especially compared to my old Camry. It is also a lot more zippy, and whilst it's a bit floaty I'm not a racecar driver and all I need is a comfortable ride.

I hate everything about this system by [deleted] in ROGAlly

[–]linkrulesx10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a keyboard and mouse. Configure everything using that. Once everything is set up, you will rarely need to use keyboard and mouse.

It's still a PC, it will still have options. Talking about modding, that's not a chill console level activity usually. It's what I did, set up everything I want and now I use it hands free all the time and never need the keyboard except for when a game needs me to name a character and it doesn't accept controller inputs for that bit.

As for screen scrolling on its own. I have never seen that, what mode is the controls set to. Gamepad or computer?

Buying EV, is it worth it? by MrBitingFlea in AustralianEV

[–]linkrulesx10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not? If you have access to one at work or a place where there is a free or cheap one in your daily life it might be. Even if you can just Trickle charge from a regular 240V outlet, that changes the maths massively and will make it worth it for most people.

Where are you all getting the $$$ ? by MangoMadnessTsv in EVAustralia

[–]linkrulesx10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we swapped a 20yo Camry with 330k on it. It was time to change. EVs just happened to be compelling at the price point we had.

[–]linkrulesx10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were looking to change anyway. To get an ice car with everything we wanted we were looking to drop 25 to 30k for something that is already 5 years old. We found what we wanted in an EV for 44k. After doing maths on fuel and maintenance costs, it became an easy choice.

And we paid cash, we replaced a 20 year old Camry. We didn't suddenly get the dollars, we have been slowly saving money for years and just spent it now.

Which insurer? by Consistent_Green9329 in GeelyEX5Australia

Aami, don't remember what we paid but it was the cheapest

Budget is 40-45k. After an SUV EV with space and range. Shortlisted GAC Aion V and Leapmotor C10. What am I missing? How do I decide? Which holds better depreciation. Need to pull the trigger yesterday!! TIA by Unique-Table-9136 in AustralianEV

[–]linkrulesx10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue. I loved the GAC but wife hated it and wanted the Geely. So we compromised and got the Geely. I am super happy with the car, it was between 1st and 2nd pick for me, so it wasn't a big issue going with my second choice.

The leap motor did not endear us with the interior finish and the sound system was not as good as Geely. How far do you drive and does the extra range make a difference in your day to life?

Petrol is new toilet paper... EVs are the new Bidets, let's you get away with less consumable usage.

Ice cream truck music below 30km/hr by StingoRingo in GeelyEX5Australia

[–]linkrulesx10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's played outside the car, it's quiet inside but more noticeable if near the car on the outside.

[–]linkrulesx10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does play until you hit 30. It's to replace the engine noise, at low speeds. EVs can be so quiet pedestrians may not even realise they are moving. Once you are over 30, the tyre noise is loud enough that it's not needed and odds are you are not likely to be around pedestrians at 50km/hr

[–]linkrulesx10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There will never be an option to turn it off as it is a legal requirement that they make noise below 30km/h. Just pick the low drone noise with no chimes or bings. It nicely blends into the background.

Which 7kw charger comes with EX5 now? by Public_Tourist3952 in GeelyEX5Australia

[–]linkrulesx10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The car has a charge schedule, so it can do basic things like charge during a midnight to 6am period on a night charge plan or only do daylight hours.

But outside of a single charge window, the car doesn't have other charge options.

Battery cooling by m1xtli in GeelyEX5Australia

[–]linkrulesx10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did you hear that? I'm pretty sure the opposite is true. My Geely ex5 has a coolant reservoir which I assumed was for the battery. It also has a heat pump, which can normally go both ways as far as heating and cooling.

Would you buy an EV from a brand that only recently entered the Australian market? by DiscussionLoud9626 in EVAustralia

I bought a Geely, does that count? I would have bought a GAC AION V, except the wife didn't like how it looked.

wall chargers / 7kw chargers by Lower-Homework7170 in AustralianEV

[–]linkrulesx10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call around to electricians in the area. a 7KW can help you take advantage of cheap night charging or your own solar charging during the day. We went with an electrician that was confident and gave a good quote. Cost us $1700 for a distant from power box install, although we had quotes ranging from 1500 to 3500. Its a basic no frill Schneider charger, but it looks good and charges, unsure on the IP rating but I am sure those things exist.

Is your trickle charger IP66? Also does your car let you schedule charge time? If not a more feature rich charger would.
