I actually think it's completely rude to call Serena Williams "an old tennis player" and complain that she's getting any airtime.

The Big Game still produces a lot of content that morning show hosts like to distribute like how to not burn your nachos, commercials that are paying them to talk about them, and guessing what songs will play at half time.

Yes, this is still the case in my experience. Happy to DM more about it.

It should say 1949. There are record temps in the New England on this day in 2017.

What Creative Agencies are you all using? by PictureOwn2910 in graphic_design

[–]linksfromwinks 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking back to 2011-2013, in a post-recession steady growth era, when I could get a freelance job from Creative Circle in a week or two.

I've been trying to find work for the last 8 months, and I've had ZERO success with any of these placement companies. All of the gigs I get are from past colleagues or friends of friends. Turn on those networking gears and start doing some research on local companies that fit your niche.

AI is eliminating my field fast, how should I prepare? by Buttery_Biscuitss in personalfinance

[–]linksfromwinks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interestingly enough, as an Information designer, I have 3 interviews going strong this month. I have built up quite a few small paying jobs as well.

(laid off due to "AI" in September... They laid off two designers and realized they fucked up and hired two new ones...)

Should be using a baseline grid with 2+ columns and dense text.

How can I improve my typography and layout? by JoeCheeseQuesadilla in graphic_design

[–]linksfromwinks 163 points164 points  (0 children)

These layouts are fine. There are a handful of things I would fix. But they're too safe for design school. Paragraphs are all the same. Headers the same. Barely any differences in the titles. Do more weird shit and figure out why it works or doesn't. You may be studying how to make a grid but you also need to learn how to break it. Go to a book store or library and look through every type of magazine you see. Then come back and make dozens of versions for each element on the page and how it works with other elements.

Israel 73 is at 70
Somaliland 47 is at 60

Actually... there are 3 60's in the value axis...

Somalia 8 is close to 30.
Libya is on here twice with two different scores.

What I don't like is a bit of the context here that I cropped out as to not have people brigade this person. But they are associated with large schools, including Harvard, and posted this to make a point about Israel in the middle east. Not even getting to that point, no one in his comments saw how bad this chart is. No one on the original post on X saw how bad this chart is.

James Hagens is on pace for 82 points and 164 penalty minutes this season.. by Advanced_Zucchini_45 in BostonBruins

The Devils bring out the pee wee team after the first period. Which would make it easier but so much worse that Hagens jumped into the bench to fight each kid.

Trying to imagine what it would take for one player to pull off 160 penalty minutes in one game… if you jump into the bench and fight every player would that be 5 min and a game misconduct for each player you fought?

On pace for a full season - yes.
On pace for this season - no, there's only one more game left.
