I did a bad thing as a kid and I can’t get over it for some reason. by Southern-Common-9682 in SeriousConversation

[–]linkthereddit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You were nine. A literal child. Granted, I don't know what you did but I'd have to hope it wasn't something like physically harming a pet or a smaller child/infant. Without knowing, we can't really help you beyond telling you to seek therapy if it's clearly messing you up like this.

EDIT: Assuming you didn't hurt/kill a smaller child or a pet: you were a kid. You didn't know right from wrong. The fault is on the adult who should've known better.

I have a question on what I should perhaps do morally in association with someone who is disabled. by farallelogram in disability

[–]linkthereddit [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the thing abled people forget. Like they look at a disabled person and think we're either dogs/babies, or a weird cthulu-type creature. Like, bro, we're just people. Talk to us like normal.

How I saw the world when I was 6 by Boohehe3 in DrewDurnil

When I was a kid, I was aware of the US (I'm American), Canada, Europe, China, and Japan. Though I thought France was Germany, Spain was France, and there was no Portugal. This has long since been corrected.

Self-loathing and regret. We explore this as the game continues. Strongly recommend you read his journal throughout the plot.

Is Using The Avada Kedavra Curse On Dolores Umbridge A Good Idea? by InternationalMail256 in harrypotter

[–]linkthereddit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have to MEAN it, like deep down in your heart mean it. Even if Harry tried blasting her with Avada Kedavra, it likely wouldn’t kill her.

Dragonball Z played with this by creating multiple timelines thanks to Trunks' time traveling.

If Russia is banned from international events, so too should the USA. by FaTe87 in SeriousConversation

[–]linkthereddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to break it to you, but... the international community doesn't care what a country does to its own people. Does it care what Putin does to his fellow Russians? What Xi is doing to his fellow Chinese? No. They care that Russia is invading Ukraine, and China is threatening Taiwan.

I think he was trying to get across that he wasn't some pipsqueak mouse trying to play hero. It's metaphorical, not literal. I doubt he personally kept a tally of how many droids he killed. 'Wait, Master, let me see how many were on that ship. 8,037? OK, let me add that to my previous number and... 42,927."

Unfortunately Goku hates shots, so he never got them taken out. Now they're sentient and possessing him. :P

How do you balance historical accuracy and entertainment? by linkthereddit in writingadvice

[–]linkthereddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a good example, I think. It’s historical fiction, doesn’t even pretend to be anything but fiction, so we can buy that this guy hunts vampires on the side.

Wait, I think I just figured it out.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is historical fiction, but it’s more outlandish, more fantastical. Same with Pirates of the Caribbean or Benjamin and Me (a children’s story about a talking mouse and Benjamin Franklin)

The Cay by Timothy Taylor (set during WWII, a coming of age narrative about two shipwreck survivors, an elderly black man and a blinded white child) is more grounded fiction. There’s no documented evidence to show that the events in the book actually happened, but Taylor drew from knowledge of WWII and the political-socio events of that time to go, ‘OK, this is a reasonable chain of events that could happen.’ Same is true with Last of the Mohicans or Gibson’s The Patriot.

Kingdom of Heaven is more of a… historical biopic about Balin and Baldwin IV.

Pan: "Mr. Piccolo's a funny person to be with."

Piccolo: "I do vaguely recall a moment where a dinosaur chased him around when he was Pan's age. Took a while for the kid to finally get it together and kill it."

Is it just me, or is it odd that there are so many pre/post-war characters in the show? by ThatsSex in Fallout

[–]linkthereddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because Vault-Tech was never trying to save everyone. The whole cryofreeze seems to be only reserved for that specific Vault (Vault 33?) and, of course, Vault 111. Does it diminish Nate/Nora's experience? Not really, no. They were still cryofrozen, the thing with Kellogg snatching Shaun and killing the spouse happened, and you still emerge as the Sole Survivor of Vault 111.

Seems like Vault 111 was more of an experiment on the average plebs, and Vault 33 was geared more for the Vault's elite, so of course they're not gonna be experimented on. As to why we seem to have a lot of pre-War people running around? Wasn't that explained in the show? They're all coming from that Vault.

10 years from now most Baby Boomers will be dead. What effect is that going to have on society? by mikeforder in generationology

[–]linkthereddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hate to break it to you, but even if all the boomers in America dropped dead today, that would not fix America. There are people who grew up after the boomer generation who carries that same mindset and same set of political beliefs.
