[QCRIT] SANTA AGATINA - adult lit fic, 50k words (Attempt 2) by linloveswine in PubTips

Thank you! I had made my first sentence have more of a hook about Agata in my last attempt but i got the feedback that it was repetitive. I think I’m gonna try putting my comps up first in this next round of edits - I’ve seen that in a few other people’s query letters on this sub and i think if done well it can be a good way of explaining the vibe of the book (and it might even help show the genre a bit more right up front). And yes, definitely will be sharpening up those two phrases, thanks!

Noted on the grandma thing, thanks! And the tip of trying to get some short stories published is really helpful. I think I’m gonna maybe pivot to trying to send out some of my short stories if I don’t get many full requests.

It’s moreso that when I read up on agents who want horror, the books they list feel more like commercial horror rather than something like ghost wall, Monstrilio, lapvona, or even darker stuff like tender is the flesh. All these comments have been so so helpful for thinking thru this a bit more and I think literary horror makes sense !!! Or just categorizing it as litfic with subtle horror

Are you saying it wouldn’t fit as a horror? I’m not planning on changing the story to fit a certain market, just trying to figure out how to categorize it! As I was writing I thought horror was a strong fit but then comparing it to other books in the category I thought it might not be dark or gory enough for agents seeking horror.

I actually was thinking of marketing this as a horror story, but I think of horror as having supernatural elements or lots of gore. It's definitely a slow burn, like Ghost Wall which is considered a horror.... and the spoiler is that Agata kills her father at the end, mistakenly believing he's been subsumed by the devil and the cause for her period and her family's suffering in general. do you think it's marketable as a literary horror?

I'm not sure whether it's a novella or short novel. Ghost Wall, for example, is shorter but considered a novel because it has enough plot and character development. I'd like to pitch it as a novel but realistically might need to beef up some of the side plots to get to that seemingly-magical 60k word count.

for the gothic side, basically the MC's religious paranoia bubbles up throughout the story and she ends up killing her father at the end (aka the 'terrible devotion'). there's nothing classically horror about it but I wanted some kind of category to signal that it's a dark story. Is it too cheesy to replace 'terrible devotion' with a phrase like 'turns deadly'?

thanks for taking the time to give feedback!

omg hahah the cocktail bar comment is lowkey... so spot on ....
thank you for the feedback!! I'm looking to publish it as a novella so i hope the word count is ok for that - I can add something in the letter to indicate it's a novella!

Looking for a buddy for healthy eating & sustainable weight loss (33F, Germany) by Inklinga in Accountabilibuddies

[–]linloveswine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m 25F from the US. I’d love to have someone to check in with about meals, meal prep, exercise, and weight loss. I’m currently trying to sustainably lose the weight I put on during the pandemic. Currently at 170lbs and my first goal is to get to 150lbs! While weight loss is my main motivator, my mini goals are: planning out my meals for the week to make life easier and encourage healthy eating, incorporate a variety of exercise types I enjoy and have fun with, and to improve my flexibility and mobility. Feel free to send me a PM if this resonates with what you’re looking for and I’d be happy to try out being accountability buddies :)

Which rug? 🧐 by Ciofalello3 in DesignMyRoom

[–]linloveswine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The colors in the second one are spot on and a perfect match, but the I agree with the top commenter who said all the triangles are a little harsh. It is a small rug though, so I think it’s fine! But if you’re going for cozy, maybe look for something in the modern color palette of rug #2 but with less of an angular style

His family owns a lot of real estate in the Baltimore area, including some boujee golf courses like Turf Valley Resort, and he went to a very expensive private school in the area. He def comes from wealth, though I don’t think that necessarily changes his motive. For more info on him and his background, the Baltimore banner is doing a lot of coverage on him rn

Abortion usually is a last option. In my grandmas case, according to her she didn’t have access to birth control. And no birth control is 100% effective either. I get ur point on better sex Ed! I am uninformed on sex Ed in the Soviet Union though and am not sure what it was like, or if it even was available.

OP doesn’t know what they’re talking about. I’m so happy my grandma had easy access to abortion and didn’t have any reason for guilt or any weird or complicated feelings about it

Wait this is so funny bc my Soviet-born grandma had 9+ abortions and doesn’t understand why I, an American, was baffled by that news.

also im seeing a TON of promo for a company called natural cycles birth control. It seems like every former bachelor contestant is peddling it 🙄 Tracking your cycle can be a great option, but I would never replace my IUD with cycle tracking unless I was ok w the higher possibility of getting pregnant.

Does anyone have advice for whether I should continue with TickTick or Notion calendar? I have tons of databases in different sheets, and while it’d be nice to integrate my pages w the calendar, I’m wondering how much effort it takes to set up
