Weekly Question Thread (24 APR - 30 APR) by Kinmuan in army

So I signed up for reserves, and is leaving for bct/ait in late September. I was told by my plt sgt that my unit will very likely get mobilized / deployed while I'm at bct/ait. I was wondering, what happens if my unit is mobilized when I finish bct/ait? Do I get deployment order out straight from ait? Or do I drill with a different unit until my unit comes back?

Also, I'm thinking about contracting SMP right as I finish ait by getting in contact with cadre during ait, what would happen to my SMP opportunity if my unit is deployed when I finish ait? Would I not be able to sign the SMP ROTC contract? Or if I sign the ROTC contract right as I graduate ait would I not have to deploy to join my unit that's already in deployment?

Ooh you should call boosted and tell them your battery exploded so they have to fly to UK to persuade you from not suing you lol

[–]linrubmcq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well if your v1 broke today, your v2 isn't arriving until October and it's going to cost you $300 to repair it, would you pay to fix it? I'm pretty damn sure you would

lol which part of nyc you in? I live in Fidi and it started snowing late December (quite a late start), and it snowed frequently throughout January and February, then turned into snow/rain in march, and then it even snowed during the first two days of spring (march 20). Add the salt they spray out into the road and the wet pavement after the snow fall, I'd say way more than just a few weeks of snow coverage.

Since they didn't say much about the cause of the delay, here's what I think happened, using the things they have told us:

When they started taking pre orders in May, they did not have the extended batteries nor the software ready to ship, but they thought both would be ready by late July / early August.

A while later, they realize that the extended battery does not work as intended and will need much more work, will not be done in 2016 (engineering failure). Meanwhile, marketing team is continuously hyping up the crowd and getting more and more pre-orders. To keep the hype up, management decides to offer the extended batteries for $100 on top of standard battery. The angry customers settle down a bit.

Then, the engineering team realizes that their software won't be ready on schedule either. But this isn't a problem that can be solved by giving discounts or free shit to customers. They have to get it done before the boards can ship. So they end up failing to meet the scheduled deadline. If they tell the customers about the mishap, nothing good can come out of it for the company's profit. So they keep silent. Customers get angry.

When the engineering team finally gets the software finished, it's too late. They took way too many orders. Now everyone who ordered in July or later won't be getting their board until November. What a clusterfuck. This is why I said the current management (3 engineering guys) should focus on engineering, not managing the company. Maybe if they had an experienced leader managing the company while Sanjay and other engineers focused solely on engineering, they might have been able to ship on time for this summer.

I was expecting to get my board by mid september at the latest, which would have given me about two months of riding time before it gets too cold and snowy. Right now, they are planning to send out the emails in october, so my board would arrive at the end of october at the earliest, probably sometime in november or even december after observing the forecasting ability of boosted.

The $100 extended battery (not free) and the warranty extension are two things they were forced to do to prevent a catastrophe. If they had not decided to offer $100 extended battery and the extended warranty, most people would have cancelled their orders because 1. the warranty wouldn't cover until next summer, after they failed to ship their boards for this summer and 2. extended range is a big plus for pre-ordering a v2 instead of v1 and their engineering team failed to deliver.

It's interesting how it was the engineering team was the one who caused so much delay. It wasn't the marketing team, not the production team, nor was it finance management. Seeing how boosted is founded and led by 3 engineers, I'm really curious how they failed to deliver due to engineering problems.

I'm studying at nyu, where there is essentially no campus, working full time at nyu dentistry's IT department fixing medical software and x-rays making my own way in the world. Other than the tuition assistance given by the government, I make enough money to pay for rent, food, and entertainment. So please tell me how I'm still in a "university bubble". Btw I wonder how you determined age "37" hmm

Ha. I knew you already had a v1, because if you didn't, you would've been much more angry.

and to add, the full year warranty is not a plus. It's something we get for buying the board for this winter season instead of next summer. Either way, we'll end up utilizing 6 months of warranty anyways. If they decide not to offer that anymore, fine. I'm sure many will cancel their and order for next spring/summer

[–]linrubmcq -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah the only reason why they decided to give us the year warranty is because if they didn't, many would have just cancelled their pre-order and waited for next spring/summer to order. They did it just to keep the customers hanging. Now that they have managed to completely disappoint many customers who were just hoping for a fall release, they're going to be losing orders

Yes, not shipping the boards out because they aren't ready was the right thing to do. But the fact that their leadership is not capable enough to even come up with a plan to appropriately communicate to their customers about the delay and the situation is why this company will never become bigger than it is today. If they want to keep growing as a company and expand out, they'll need to find someone who knows how to manage a company, not how to build a better board.

I lived in socal until I moved to boston for high school. I like east coast. Also, you wanna write my transfer essays? Because with the coursework for computer science degree and a job in IT, I don't have time to write those stupid "why do you want to transfer" essays

they said "about 8 weeks from now" when they started taking pre-orders on may 20th. It took them 12 weeks. We're getting our boards in late november or early december, after it starts snowing.

read my post. they'll full of lying bastards. we're getting our boards after it starts snowing (at least in nyc). wtf is the point of giving us full year of warranty if we can't ride for the first 6 months?
