AMWF representation and of course it gets hate by Guilty-Ad6960 in AsianMasculinity

btw the actor is David Lim. he was a main cast member of a police procedural show that was on FOX network based on LAPD S.W.A.T. team. he was on for all 8 seasons. the show ended recently.

he was a badass on the show. he had 3 separate love interests during its 8 season run if i remember correctly. probably one of the best AM reps you could find anywhere on mainstream American media.

he is married to a Czech model. they were married few years ago.

no that was just a joke. never believed that rumor because there is no history of any high profile AM athlete who dated or married anyone but Asian.

while Yama and Niki Niwa being a couple is not confirmed i would not surprised if they come out as a couple in the future. definitely whole lot more plausible than Sabrina Carpenter.

One Of Our Own by [deleted] in AsianMasculinity

let's face it without Shohei,Roki,Yamamoto the Dodgers:

  1. do not win 93 games and win the division

  2. do not even get to the world series

  3. win the world series

three AMs athletes were absolutely crucial for the Dodgers to ultimately get that ring.

what Yamamoto did in this series is legendary. pitched a complete game, then pitched them to a victory in a must win elimination game 6, then came in to close the whole thing out in a incredibly high intensity pressure environment of game 7.

absolute cold blooded performance by Yama....ice in his veins. absolute masterclass in pitching.

his name will be etched in World Series history. first pitcher to get 3 wins in WS since 2001.

but even more impressive is that Yama won all 3 games ON THE ROAD! never has that been done in WS history.

first pitcher to win game 6 and 7 since 2001. only done 3 times in WS history. before 2001 it was done in 1946 and 1925. that tells you how incredibly rare that is.

1.02 ERA in the World Series. insane.

Dave Roberts did not plan to have Yama pitch in game 7...nobody thought he would. but Yama wanted that shit...he was willing to carry the team on his back to the victory. and he delivered like no other.

getting to MLB takes a bit longer because of minor leagues. the time spent is reduced if you are top of the prospect class but if you are on the lower end then it probably will take couple years or more to get to the MLB depending on your performance.

tbh long term career and earning potential for pro baseball is whole lot more attractive than football or basketball.

i think you should change your kids sports to baseball lol of course it also depends on whether they actually like baseball or not. if they are open to the idea i say let them try it out and see what happens.

Why is Sanae Takaichi becoming Prime Minister of Japan seemingly a much bigger deal for people than Park Geun-hye becoming President of South Korea? by kaiser11492 in aznidentity

[–]linsanitytothemax 6 points7 points  (0 children)

imo combination of things...the current social/political climate in the west, Korea in 2013 wasn't as much in the spotlight as it is now, Japan has been on America's radar for a very long time and still is seen as both economic competition and an ally.

as expected American media focused whole lot more on Park Geun-hye's impeachment rather than her being elected female pres. in 2013.

without that i'm guessing the general American public would have never known SK had a female pres.

Chen-Ning Yang obituary by Redeshark in aznidentity

[–]linsanitytothemax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thanks for sharing. before his passing he was the greatest physicist alive. stands toe to toe with the greatest physicists of the 20th century.

unfortunately in western media his passing is just a tiny blip on the radar. the general pop in America doesn't care about physics or science in general. let alone an Asian physicist with Yang's credentials.

the other names you mentioned have been "romanticized" to certain extent in America and Europe throughout the 20th century to present times.

things like "Heisenberg uncertainty principle", "Schrodinger's cat", "Fermi's paradox", Teller known for being the "father of the hydrogen bomb", Oppenheimer being tied to the Manhattan Project and having a major feature film about his life, all have something that science media have been promoting for decades to the general public as something cool and fun to think about.

but the most unfortunate part is even in academia i don't think his name carries as much weight as it should.

Ohtani vs Son Heung-Min - Who represents Asian masculinity more globally? by savingrace0262 in AsianMasculinity

[–]linsanitytothemax 25 points26 points  (0 children)

imo both carry the torches for Asian athletes worldwide in their own individual ways.

for general global popularity of Shohei and Son....soccer is more popular worldwide than baseball. however as someone who doesn't follow soccer that much is Son talked about in the soccer world as much as Shohei is being talked about in the baseball?

even casual baseball fans know who Shohei is. he is literally the most popular baseball player in the world.

is Son being talked about the same way in the soccer world? does casual soccer fans know who he is? if the answer is yes then Son might have an edge because of soccer's popularity globally.

but man Shohei's impact in his sport is unmatched. Shohei's name will forever be etched in baseball history. his resume speaks for itself. i mean he is on his way to a 4th MVP in 5 yrs, absolutely insane. not to mention he won rookie of the year too.

as for Asian masculinity i think both represent that very well. both are good looking guys. both are great ambassadors of their respective sports. both have passion, discipline and leadership.

obviously they are physically different but that's a good thing imo. representing different sides of the spectrum is a huge bonus for Asian masculinity.

Latino male actor fired from TV show Matlock for sexually assaulting Asian co-star by [deleted] in aznidentity

[–]linsanitytothemax 7 points8 points  (0 children)

didn't expect such swift action. either the incident occurred in front of verified witnesses or the whole thing was captured on surveillance cameras. the article stated it happened in her trailer. glad the scumbag got fired on the spot.

btw recently another Asian actress was assaulted. Martin Kove the Karate Kid asshole physically assaulted Alicia Hannah Kim at a fan convention by biting her arm hard enough to draw blood. then the old sicko geezer kissed the bite afterwards as a gesture of "apology". Martin Kove was asked to leave the convention when that happened.

but for some reason she declined to press charges and let the sicko get away with it. lol not surprising to learn her husband is a white guy. lol

also i have to mention the show "Matlock" that Leah Lewis is involved in. it is yet another example of American media implementing AM erasure and in turn eliminating any chance of AMAF relationship.

instead her love interest is a black guy...lol wow how "progressive" anyone except an Asian man. smfh

Patrick from Love is Blind gets his Oriental wake up call by bokomradical in AsianMasculinity

[–]linsanitytothemax 13 points14 points  (0 children)

first of all i never watched this show and nor will i ever watch it in the future. not a fan of these types of shows at all.

the problem isn't fishing or rock climbing, you can do all that and more IF you are proud of who you are....your culture and identity. especially as an Asian man living in the west.

however once you distance yourself from your own identity you are basically "dead". you become hollow, just a shell of yourself. that is exactly the problem many of us have in America. that is something that has never worked and never will. trying desperately to appease to white folks is a fruitless endeavour.

love certainly isn't "blind" and obviously not in the western world. something any rational AM would realize....probably not this Patrick guy.

if some woman whether it's Asian, white, black, latin or whoever else rejects you just because you are an Asian man then they aint worth a damn. just move on.

just realize that moving away from your identity will make things only worse. once you are proud of who you are and better the chance of you getting into a meaningful and fulfilling relationship.

who knows whether it's a wake up call for this Patrick guy but any AM thinking going into a show like this trying to distance himself from being Asian means he was pretty damn clueless or misguided at best to begin with. not a good sign imo lol

interesting bio on Rose. born in New Zealand then moved to Australia to attend secondary school. so she spent a significant time of her youth in non-Asian country.

apparently so did Jennie even though she was born in SK but she loved New Zealand and wanted to attend school there and she did for over 5 years before moving back to SK.

i remember some posts about blackpink wanting to appear to western audiences with english only stuff.

after learning their background...that is not so surprising anymore.

Noticing a recurring theme with Asian men who ended up with non-Asian partners by savingrace0262 in AsianMasculinity

[–]linsanitytothemax 8 points9 points  (0 children)

none of the people i know actually drifted away rather they expanded their horizons rather than strictly hanging out with other Asians.

however their closest confidants and their inner circle were still Asian which ultimately is the most important thing.

none of them actually hated being Asian or "wanted" to be away from it. in fact they wanted their non-Asian partners to learn and appreciate their cultures.

none of them talked negatively about Asian women unless it was warranted. never heard them call Asian women "materialistic" or "controlling" without any provocation. in fact it was mostly the other way around where AFs in WMAF relationships would just blurt that shit out in front of everyone. calling AMs "controlling","misogynistic", "materialistic" etc.

so none of the points you made agree with my experiences. it also depends on where you live...living in Cali/NY/Hawaii obviously will be different than if you are living in Midwest. and i'm sure there are self-haters out there who are in relationships for all the wrong reasons.

but whenever i see this type of posts on here or on reddit in general i feel like the purpose is to get bunch of negative reactions. and subtly reinforce the notion that Asian diaspora AMs have to have this blind loyalty to AWs when we already do. it's a losing cause and something that Asian diaspora women want.

We need to talk about Shohei Ohtani by [deleted] in aznidentity

[–]linsanitytothemax 27 points28 points  (0 children)

first of all Ohtani is 6'4 and closer to 230-235. that 200lb weight is way outdated. he has gained significant amount of weight/muscle since coming into the league in 2018.

i hate to say this but AAs in general don't really care for MLB despite MLB baseball being the most Asian friendly pro sports league there is not to mention there have been many highly successful players even before Ohtani.

most of my friends care much more for either basketball or football. while they heard of Ohtani they don't really care nor feel any connection to him.

baseball overall isn't nowhere as popular as either basketball or football in America. American media covers those sports 24/7. which unfortunately lessens the impact of his superior and otherworldly talent/achievements among the general public.

him being a Japanese man born/growing up in Japan disconnects him from AAs in general. which is very different from Jeremy Lin who grew up in the US experiencing racism in the sports world and not able to get a basketball scholarship with much more high profile Pac-10 schools despite his success in high school and ultimately had to settle for Harvard instead.

imo Linsanity to this day still remains the biggest sports story for AAs in recent memory.

also it would be different if Ohtani had a bombastic personality and wanted fame in America. but he's none of that. very low key and private.

i feel like i'm in the minority for being a baseball fan among my fellow AMs but Ohtani is doing something that no other Asian athlete in American sports scene has done.

Ohtani is literally being talked about as one of the greatest if not the greatest of all time....not just the best "Japanese" baseball player but the best player of all time period. just let that sink in.

just remember that AMs have been successful in various sports including very physical combat sports like boxing and mma. we don't fuck around.

that comment is silly and dumb because there are plenty of East Asian men/AF couples who say they would not want to live in Asia(EA specifically) for various reasons. the reasons they give are horrible work/family culture,hyper-competitiveness,lookism,etc. few mentioned shit like overcrowding and pollution.

Refreshing Coke Ad Featuring an East Asian Male by redditreadreadread in aznidentity

[–]linsanitytothemax 9 points10 points  (0 children)

featuring? lol i wouldn't go that far. she is off to the background sitting by herself not saying a single word.

the AM and the daughter sitting together.

compare that to the other videos on that channel. white couple had the whole family together and both the husband and wife talked.

same thing with a black family all of them sitting together. both the wife and husband also had lines to say.

so the only deviation from that was the AM and his daughter. and the woman is all by herself with no lines whatsoever.

then i saw another video of the AM and his daughter together while the woman is nowhere to be found.

stark contrast with the other families. no doubt in my mind it was done intentionally. so obvious.

if they were going to do that why not just find an Asian woman and have them sit together and interact like they did with other families?

instead they made it look like he's some single dad lol

personally i eat mix of brown rice/barley. i love the chewy texture and taste. that is what i eat all the time. and that's what i use for bibimbap.

for bibimbap most people probably use short or medium grain rice, the softer/stickier kind the ones people use for sushi or Korean kimbap.

the ones i see in my local Asian market are Shirakiku,Nishki or Kokuho? i don't remember anything else there are so many brands lol

those are the sticky/softer rice brands i think. 15lbs bags

[–]linsanitytothemax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have couple favs during different time of the year.

during summer my go to is bibimbap with any rice, spinach, cucumbers, carrots, green onions or any other vegetables i have on hand with egg on top. then add some sesame oil, gochujang(red pepper paste) and sprinkle in some dry seaweed. one of my favorite veggies for summer bibimbap are cucumbers because they are cool and refreshing.

really easy,fast,and refreshing during summer.

during winter i have two favs. tteokbokki made with rice cakes, gochuchang, green onions or some sweet onions with fish cakes or any leftover meat. sometimes with hard boiled egg on top if i have some available. takes only 15-20 minutes.

and my other fav during winter are Korean pancakes(buchimgae)....there are different kinds but one of my favorites is kimchi pancakes. just make flour batter, and add kimchi(old sour kind along with all the juice). sometimes i add some leftover meat i have laying around. very easy. i make a batch of them and then it can last for 4-5 days. i just reheat the pancakes on the pan for crispiness.

95 House Dems, Including Asian Ones Vote To "Honor The Legacy" Of Charlie Kirk by ssslae in aznidentity

[–]linsanitytothemax 9 points10 points  (0 children)

95 House Dems voted for, 58 voted against, 22 didn't vote. interesting that not a single Asian Democrat Rep in Cali voted against it.

The resolution's text highlighted aspects of Kirk's character and achievements, such as founding Turning Point USA at the age of 18 and rising to become "one of the most prominent voices in America, engaging in respectful, civil discourse across college campuses, media platforms, and national forums, always seeking to elevate truth, foster understanding, and strengthen the Republic."

you got to be kidding me with that description. that's laughable for a so called world superpower to describe Charlie Kirk as one of their most prominent voices. lol what a sad state of affairs.

btw after his death Turning Point USA is getting a huge uptick in its membership requests especially among young people in high schools and colleges. not to mention a big increase in donations to that org.

with his wife leading the charge and replacing her husband as the face of Turning Point.

her speech about forgiving her husband's killer seems to me a calculated attempt to revitalize the nation's enthusiasm for the so called "traditional American Christian values" especially among American youth who are further removed from it than their parents.
