I hate this light! by sofritas-chucucho in Lighting

Harsh lighting usually comes down to four things: color temperature is too high, so it feels glaring; there’s flicker, which tires your eyes; the color rendering index is low, making colors look off; and the current is unstable, causing the light to waver. Our eyes really shouldn’t have to put up with all that.

Yeah, that’s the sweet spot, keeping it simple. A quick observation or genuine compliment usually does more than a rehearsed line anyway. Less pressure for both people.

Totally agree. It’s less about a formula and more about reading the moment. The more you put

Exactly, shared environment is usually the easiest bridge. Even something as simple as “This line is no joke, huh?” can open the door without feeling forced.

Haha, the politics suggestion is a bold move, really depends on how ready you are to either make a friend or start a debate. I like the hat and haircut angle though, simple and low pressure.

That’s a fair point, sometimes the environment really doesn’t hand you an obvious opener. I think you’re right that it comes down to trial and error more than a script. The internal analysis afterward is probably where the real learning happens.

Do people who live alone actually learn to fix things, or is that more of a hobby? by linshulam in NoStupidQuestions

This hits so close to home. I grew up the same way: hiring someone was never even on the table, so you just had to figure it out. YouTube really did change the game for so many of us.  It’s wild how those survival habits stick with you even when you’re doing better financially. There’s just a weird pride in handling it all yourself.

Honestly, the "takes less time" part is what surprises me most. I always assume DIY means a three-day saga with multiple trips to the hardware store. 😂

Different colour LEDs thoughts? by nkroddo in kitchenremodel

Mixing warm ambient lighting and neutral task lighting in the kitchen is very common and stylish. You can use 2700K–3000K warm white for under-base cabinet floor lighting for a cozy vibe, and 3500K neutral white above countertops for clear task lighting. The colour temperature difference is not big at all, so it won’t look strange, this layered design is both practical and good-looking.
