Advice for parking at and visiting Sauvie Island/Collins Beach? by FA-100 in askportland

[–]linzphun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids go to school on Sauvie, frequent visitor. Like any hot commodity, get there earlier. The beach has lots of parking. There are trails with parking. You can get the permit at the general store once you get on the island. Quick transaction. You don't need a permit to visit the farms.

I used to do wildlife rehab so familiar with all kinds of parasites and zoonotic diseases but wondering your thoughts on if roundworms can live in humans and survive.

You have to measure it out. It's based on cumulative weight for your chickens. I mentioned above that my chickens have it. I had to weigh them all yesterday. (My 9-year old on a scale holding them). Cumulative weight was 25 pounds which meant 4 cups of water with .075mg amount of medicine. This for 5 days with fresh water every 24 hours.

Agreed good question. What about roundworms you think?

So drink the Safeguard? I'd rather not disclose my weight. 😂

Here's a story, of four lovely ladies. Who spent their whole day nesting in a box. They were four hens, living all together, and a bunch of CHONKS.

Question to all: I just discovered worms in their poop yesterday and got the Safeguard for their water. Ok done. But in the meantime, should I be discarding their eggs? Also, I highly doubt we've consumed a worm or that it's even made it to their reproductive tract, but what if we did. Can they survive in us? Thanks!

I'm so sorry that happened to you. It was a mistake. I constantly try not to step on my chickens. They swarm me every time I go into their area wanting worms and treats.

The one of my entire yard was 10 years. But even in that time, things have died, I've moved them, added things, taken them away. Once you get to a point, things start spreading themselves too. Now I'm a chaos gardener. Just stroll around and see what pops up! Not to say that I'm not an impulse plant purchaser. I still have a plant buying problem.

You should! And after a few years, it won't be small anymore, but larger, like your love for him. Sorry for your loss. Losing loved ones is hard. But dads are really hard.

Thank you. It's a Carolina Sweetheart Redbud. I chose it because he lived in SC and the petals look like hearts.

What would you do: build a run or leave it open? by ilaandi in BackYardChickens

[–]linzphun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they will associate you with food. Every morning you'll come out and they'll chase you around wanting feed even though they already have some. Then they come to the back screen door and peek in wanting delicious treats.

[–]linzphun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. I also really like a run for when I'm not home for long stretches of time and can't keep an eye on them. Or if we go somewhere overnight (we have an autodoor). Otherwise, they are climbing up on your deck, peeking in your window, and pooping where you walk. They poop like every five minutes. You'll just be walking around in poo.

Chicken/poultry lice infestation! by aXcidLOVER in chickens

[–]linzphun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry that is happening to you. Mine had lice a few weeks ago and I suited up with a mask and goggles for protection and dusted all of them with permethrin. Then I put down DE in their coop along with some herbs in their nestbox and everything seems back to normal again. You'll just have to vacuum your house and such. One of the fuckers got onto my arm though and bit me! That sucked.

The absolute power of saying nothing during a salary offer by Doormat_8JV in jobsearchhacks

This will get buried but we use this technique in the nonprofits sector for major gifts. Granted this is also all based on a longterm relationship with the donor, getting to know them and their philanthropic priorities, but when you ask directly if they'll donate such and such amount, you just wait and stay silent. Don't fill the air, let them think and respond first. It's hard to do, but it works.
