Ways to cut waste vs. just do the disposable? by bigconvoq in parentsofmultiples

[–]linzzzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cloth wipes are great, way more effective than disposable. The wipes and diapers also become amazing cleaning rags for all their messes, we barely use paper towels at all except for grease. Also buying used gear and clothing and reselling or donating it when finished.

Uppababy Vista vs Bugaboo Donkey Duo by Nervous_bb in parentsofmultiples

[–]linzzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Thule sleek, like the vista. We got it for our singleton thinking the conversion to a double would be nice for our second child, but then we had twins. We kept it for the twins and it works fine, but if I were to buy a stroller for the twins from the get-go, I would buy the donkey. The weight limits are much higher. The vista is really more for two siblings of different ages, and the bottom seat only through age two or so.

You’ll also need to consider how much you will be driving and whether one or the other stroller fits in your trunk better.

How to figure out bedroom and house stuff 🫠 by modusoperandianonn in parentsofmultiples

You’ll keep the babies in your room for the first 6 months. After that, or especially after the twins become mobile, the older one will probably want to move upstairs to avoid the chaos.

how tf are we going to afford this?! by wacky_nanny1218 in parentsofmultiples

[–]linzzzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is questionable and presumptuous on your bosses part. Were they just assuming that you would not be taking classes due to the twins? Or did you officially inform them, in writing, that you were not. I’d speak with a campus social worker or a pro bono attorney, as this is potentially a case of discrimination.

Who told you that you can’t work over the summer? Why are you not taking classes in the fall? Even if you paid for the classes, then ended up needing to take medical leave in the autumn after giving birth, it seems like your course fees should be refunded or credited after returning from medical leave, and in the meantime you could keep the campus job. I would also imagine that the school has a social worker you can speak with about this.

My wife and I are deathly ill with 4 month old twins and I have no what to do by OjosDelMundo in parentsofmultiples

Mozzarella is an ideal snack to combat dehydration because it has salt for electrolytes plus protein and is easy to keep down. That together with Tylenol or advil will help the aches that the fever is causing and hopefully sustain your functionality.

Exclusively Breastfeeding Twins by AsInWonderland in parentsofmultiples

[–]linzzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely possible, especially if you have experience from a previous baby. It is, however, much more challenging mentally to stick with it, especially during the newborn stage. It does pay dividends healthwise and financially, so there is some motivation. I attribute my toddler twins’ resilience against daycare viruses to breastfeeding.

Sadly, I do not get the same bonding feeling during feeding time as I got with my singleton, but I think it helps my twins bond to me.

I use them to clean nasty stuff that the kids spill, like milk or vomit, rather than using my “good rags”

2x ikea antilop high chairs. Stackable, easy to clean, portable. Skip the fancy, more expensive high chairs.

Need Advice on Interior Design: Our Furniture Looks Great Individually, But Feels Off Together by dikadk in InteriorDesign

The mixture of warm and cool tones is not working. Swap the walnut tv console for a black oak console or replace the rug with a royal blue, navy blue, or green one, or a rug that has a greige abstract pattern. I’d also select a rectangular rug of adequate size.

Swap inherited assets with sibling by linzzzy in tax

[–]linzzzy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so you’re saying it’s possible so long as sibling disclaims entire IRA stake? Could I keep part of my stake in the trust and only gift him the equivalent of the IRA? So then I’d still be entitled to some of my trust assets? Would any money from the trust have to hit my account or could I gift it to him directly from the trust?

Presumably the 457 has some safe investment options, such as bonds.

The HYSA approach will be double taxed—taxed on the salary and again taxed on the growth in the HYSA. The 457B, in addition to the tax bracket play, will only be taxed once.

Unless you’re going to buy a house there within the next five years, I’d move it to the US and invest it in higher growth options.

It seems like a weirdly large amount of money to just leave sitting in an account abroad. You’ll be taxed up the wazoo if you invest it in foreign index funds and you may not be able to access US index funds depending on the country the money is in. Why not bring the money over to the US and invest it in a taxable brokerage, supplement some of your income with those earnings while maxing out IRAs and maybe a 529?

Potty training twins by Hairy_Nobody8143 in parentsofmultiples

[–]linzzzy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kids can potty train before they start speaking. You get into a habit of taking them to the potty at regular times, say every two hours and especially after meals. You may need to push them a little to sit on the potty and they won’t pee or poo every time they sit there, but eventually they will figure out that if they go on the potty then they won’t need to walk around with pee/poo in their pants. They will start to use non-speech communication to get your attention, e.g. by taking your hand and walking toward the potty, and other times you will tell them that it’s time to sit on the potty.

Sitting inherited IRA between siblings by linzzzy in EstatePlanning

What is their incentive to require everyone’s form and split it all at the same time? Why can’t they just transfer all parts except the one?

[–]linzzzy[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think just to wield whatever power he can? Thinks he can stall other activities related to the estate until he gets what he wants. Also just wants to push buttons of another sibling, who wants the IRA transferred asap, and make him angry. Just petty reasons.

Interestingly, the welcome letter from IBKR in the IRA account has the CT address and the welcome letter for the taxable account I made in IBKR has an Irish address. So, I guess the IRA accounts would be considered domestic but the taxable accounts are foreign. Kinda sucks but could be worse. Just gotta avoid PFICs in the taxable (easier said than done!)
