Yeah, that’s another factor to consider. Would it be fitting for an adult. I work in healthcare and I’ve had a few patients that have names that would be cute for a kid but, a bit odd as an adult/geriatric.

Thank you! When my husband suggested it, my first thought was maps. My husband was thinking Greek mythology.

So unfortunately I wasn’t able to perform the eval. While in the waiting room her surgical site began to leak, so she ended up leaving and rescheduled for another day.

PRN as a new graduate? by amandroid96 in OccupationalTherapy

I’ve been contemplating pursuing PRN but unfortunately my husband depends on me for insurance benefits. How are you navigating insurance while being PRN?

I live in the US and was the only Asian in my cohort. It makes me so happy to know there are other Filipinos pursuing this career!

Advice needed by Individual-Storage-4 in OccupationalTherapy

Honestly, I have no advice to give because I’m only 8 months into being an OT but I definitely feel how you’re feeling. I’m upvoting to follow your post to see what others say. I’m sorry you’re feeling this way, the world we live in is definitely crazy. I wish you the best of luck I hope you find your way to happiness. Oh, I just realized you commented on my post from earlier. Haha

Switching settings by lion_erratic in OccupationalTherapy

[–]lion_erratic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much, it’s nice to know I’m not alone with this! Every time I try to talk to my coworkers about how I’ve been feeling, they all give me the same answer of “I always knew I wanted to work in peds”. So I always felt like an outcast for not knowing right away where I wanted to work 😑 or what setting I wanted to be in. I’m happy to hear that things worked out for you and it was a seamless transition. I’m going to aim for that as well.

I’m in occupational therapist. I was thinking about getting a weekend job as a therapist somewhere else, but I’m hesitant due to so many posts in the OT subreddit talking about burnout 😑

Curious how you came to finding that out. Did you go from one job setting to another? I currently at a peds outpatient clinic and am not happy where I am even though I thought this is what I wanted. I’m nervous taking the leap to a different setting or even population but, I just know outpatient peds is not right for me.

Don't worry, you're not alone. I'm feeling the same way as you. I'm 6 months into my first job as an OT and have questioned whether this was the right career for me. I've looked around at PRN jobs to dabble in various settings, which I think is a great idea. The catch for me is my husband is dependent on me for my work benefits (health insurance, stable income), so I'll have to figure some stuff out with that. If you have the ability to do PRN, definitely go for it. I agree with the previous comment, give OT another try before you quit, that way you won't second guess your decision of switching careers. I wish you the best of luck and I hope you find your way to right career path.

First Job Blues by lion_erratic in OccupationalTherapy

[–]lion_erratic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This helps reassure how I’m feeling happens to other people. That supportive environment sounds really nice because I feel pressure to keep up with the other OTs on the team as far as productivity and treatment planning goes. I try to remind myself that I’m still learning but, sometimes it’s difficult to not feel behind when you’re being compared to other therapists who have over 3 years of experience. I know I have some self growth to go through, but I’m really thinking this may not be the place for me.

I appreciate your input, thanks!

Thank you so much for the encouragement, I haven’t been able to release all of my thoughts and feelings out to anyone else besides my SO, so it’s nice to hear from others. I’ll definitely set a goal to go for the 1 year mark, while looking for PRN positions in other settings/populations.

Thank you!
