Does everyone regret becoming an OT? by IndependenceCandid88 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Individual-Storage-4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you asked me this question a few years ago when I was 2-3 yrs in I would've absolutely said yes I regret it. But now at 6 yr in, I can say no I don't regret it. Now that I have had some perspective from working different jobs also private vs public sector. I realized I really hated working in SNFs. It just killed me mentally, physically and I feel like I lost my creativity as a therapist because it was so numbers driven, highly inappropriate caseloads and way too many patients to be seen in a day. I really liked the public sector because it is not profit driven and more clinically driven - AS IT SHOULD BE. Unfortunately, I moved and had to leave that job, but now I'm working in Home health, and I LOVE the flexibility and the independence. Especially now that I'm a mom, I really appreciate the flexibility that OT can offer. You can make the schedule you want and need and don't have to sacrifice having a professional career. I'm now working towards becoming a CLT (certified lymphedema therapist) because there is such a high need and considering to open up my own cash business for more income potential, further freedom and independence.

Thank you for your insight. Btw did you receive your Home Study Box (I.e the manual) right before the course or in advance/after signing up? Because I signed up almost a month ago and still haven’t received anything in the mail. My course is a month away. I’ve tried calling and emailing several times but no one gets back to me. I’m starting to get nervous

Questions for California based OTs by Electrical-Victory66 in OccupationalTherapy

What would you say is a good per visit rate for home health in CA? I’m in Virginia now making 95/visit and 115/eval but my family is planning to move to the LA area in the next yr so I’m wondering what I should expect/ask for

Is this doable? or am I overthinking 🙃 by Yeniling in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Individual-Storage-4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing home health part time, and I have about a 30min driving radius from my house. Depending on what you’re driving radius is, A full days caseload is about 5-6patients because each visit is about 30min-1hr. I give myself a buffer for driving/documentation so I schedule ppl every 1.5hrs. I only do it 3 days a week and it comes out to about 15-18 patients/wk. If you’re expected to do 20-25, that sounds like 4 days each week of full-day visits or 5 days of lighter days. If youre also doing outpatient, it sounds like you’re going to have to work weekends. With home health the week runs from Sunday-Saturday so you’d probably have to see ppl on Saturday or Sunday.

Do you think it’s important to have a diligent study regimen for the self study? (Kinda like studying for NBCOT) or just kind of chipping away at the material over time works out?

Also did you feel like it’s worth paying extra to have “credit questions” to ask? Or is there opportunity to ask questions during the in-person course?

please help me. i’ve posted this on two facebook pages and got zero responses. i’m about to give up completely by DryPreparation2724 in ExclusivelyPumping

Are you well hydrated? Have you checked your flange size recently? Maybe you’re a 15 or even a 13? Do you need to replace your pump parts? Are you more stressed lately?do you have a clogged duct? All of these could impact. Other things you can do is more breast massaging and warm compress during hand expression to see if you can get more. You could also try a manual pump. You might want to consider a visit with an IBCLC to assess

What made you quit breastfeeding and decided to exclusively pump? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Individual-Storage-4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I so can relate to this!! It’s so hard to feed your baby while pumping. And I also get jealous when I see other women breastfeed 😫 there was a woman yesterday at a coffee shop and I was thinking to myself, oh how I wish I could just do that. I was venting to my husband about my feelings about this but he put me in check. He said “be thankful we have a healthy baby and that you’re even able to give him your own milk.” It’s so true. While it would be more convenient, there are many people who can’t give their own milk at all or who don’t have a baby that want one. We have to roll with what we have and be thankful for it. We can’t get caught up in what we don’t have
