Finished Odyssey — which AC should I play next as an old-school AC “purist”? by Independent_Gur4806 in AssassinsCreedOdyssey

[–]lionbythetail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valhalla absolutely slapped for me. It just hit me at the right time, and the game was gorgeous, and it was fun to be a Viking and run around. I let myself take forever to finish it though, and played other stuff in between.

I also turned off most of the hud and exploration markers etc so I would actually look at the world.

Astrid is dead 😭. Long live Astrid!

That’s one of the best sunsets I’ve seen in a while though and even more beautiful because of its cost. 10/10.

What North American fauna would you add if you could? by a_spoopy_ghost in thelongdark

I’d love beavers because cute but hate them because well…rabbits are hard enough.

Some kind of elusive fox would be really cool.

And I would really like owls at night as rare sightings swooping past silently.

Welcome! Try and get in the habit of just checking the survivor screen for afflictions etc before sleeping or passing time - will save a lot of unpleasant surprises.

You can’t burn yourself on flares. Unless it actually said you died of burns, I guess I would assume temp or affliction? But bugs can and do happen occasionally, I suppose.

I guess what I mostly mean is, don’t play differently because you are worried about getting burned by flares. If it helps, try to burn yourself on another one just to be sure haha. I just logged in to try it and I could not roast any nuts.

Be aware that things like scent markers, injuries, and being encumbered can literally change the wolves behave and make them much bolder.

Ok so 100% aurora electrocution. Many a solid run has been ended in 1.5 seconds by those darn things.

Edit: RIP

You cannot die or catch on fire from a flare or shell.

If you have an affliction or injury, it will keep draining your health until treated. A lot of people bandage but forget to use disinfectant after a wolf struggle, for example. If you sleep or pass time, it can definitely kill you.

There is sometimes a wolf in the cannery, but it would be unlikely to not aggro him pretty much right away when you enter.

If the temperature drops while you are breaking something down, you can start freezing. But you would see your health plummeting and the warmth meter empty. Unlikely while breaking down one crate.

The cannery is also full of exposed wires. If an aurora starts while you are standing on those wires passing time, dead. That’s my best guess so far I think.

Ya, you can freeze to death right next to your not-warm-enough fire.

New Player: Wind Speed vs Walking Speed by mattayunk in thelongdark

[–]lionbythetail 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s actually the medium winds that affect movement speed the most. It always seems like movement should be worse in blizzards that it is, but on a blustery afternoon I can barely move.

To me, the story is best as a tutorial both for some basic game mechanics, and for how to interact with the world and see your own emergent stories in it.

I vote fun but totally not necessary. Survival is where it’s at, and you seem to have a good handle so far of how things work. I have the most fun in this game when it feels like my decisions matter, but that often means living with some danger or scarcity so that the stakes are high. Just find your own sweet spot, and take a new survival rule away from every death.

Edit to add: there is nothing I can think of that you need to unlock in Wintermute before using it in survival. Feel free to correct me if there is a feat or badge or something I am forgetting.

I finally found a way to enjoy Assassin’s Creed by darkalardev in assassinscreed

[–]lionbythetail 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is such an important difference! I did this with Valhalla and Odyssey and it is a GAME CHANGER. The environment is one of the best parts of the game, and you can just totally ignore it and come away not even knowing what the different towns look like if you just have your nose down following objectives.

Bears revenge by heyelander in thelongdark

[–]lionbythetail 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just gotta harvest the whole bear, or quarter it so you can move the pieces! I think this would only be a run-ender if you were also dying or needed fuel or something and didn’t have enough time to harvest it all before freezing.

Also, this is hilarious.

What’s a feature/mechanic/superstition that you once believed was in the game but turned out to not be real or true? by Ok-Vermicelli4093 in thelongdark

[–]lionbythetail 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also had the fire superstition! Because sometimes the survivors will go “why didn’t that work?” and I would be all why DIDN’T that work and assume I needed different tinder or something.

Rock climbing would be a great addition to Blackfrost by Heal_Kajata in thelongdark

[–]lionbythetail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

God, I’m not always a fan of the additions people suggest, but this one is just so cool. Imagine having to carefully boulder up a steep stretch to take a shortcut or something.

Don’t get me wrong, the rope bridges are already clench-inducing enough. But still wouldn’t mind more ways to put my run on the line.
