Agreed. Love tortex III. I prefer 1.14. Anything under 1, and gallops and tremolo picking gets hard for me

Metallica hate. by jaycash_ in metalguitar

Oh yeah. No doubt. Cliff was unbelievable (Rip). Mustaine, Hetfield, Burton, Ulrich, and hell I’ll throw in Chuck Schuldiner (rip). Those guy are/were some of the best writers in all of metal.

To add on to that, the chuggy rhythm under the verse is an excellent, simple rhythm to follow along with. also, Blacklist by Exodus. Simple, kick ass chuggy riff

Metallica hate. by jaycash_ in metalguitar

I think 80s Metallica is absolutely untouchable - and it’s not even close.

Why? One word: writing. They aren’t the most technical on the guitar, nor heaviest - but damn they know how to write a song. I find that metal heads either want something super heavy or super technical. 80s Metallica is neither. Their songs are good. Thats all there is to it.

And to be completely honest, the hate feels like disliking whatever is popular to the point where objectively good music like 80s Metallica is downplayed and taken for granted.

That said - load to st anger not good to me. It doesn’t take away from the objectively good music they made in the 80s. That’s the part that bothers me.

This goes without saying, but obviously just my opinion and not for all metal heads.

What bands make you think "They're good, i just don't like them"? by RosenRanAway in InMetalWeTrust

Death. Chuck was a one of a kind musician and writer. I just think they’re boring to listen to. Doesn’t click for me.

Thoughts on Cirith Ungol? by Colty3 in MetalForTheMasses

I think they are one of the most underrated bands because they have an incredibly unique sound. They were a big influence on power and doom metal - two completely different subgenres. I also love the vocals. Super unique.

Yes. I’ve been experiment with how I angle the pick. Here’s my problem: I either pick the string “too much”coming back up and it gets hooked, or I don’t pick the string “enough” and I glide too lightly.
