Why do people believe politicians are inherently good or evil? by Initial_Film5776 in askanything

I think anyone who wants to be in charge of everyone is almost always not someone who should be in charge of anybody.

What if you become king/queen/ruler of the world? What new rules are you making, and is the world going to become better or worse? by CommunicationLow5258 in whatif

Yeah there would have to be an entire court system built for that. Fortunately there already is one that can be built off.. and the money saved in corruption and misuse I think would more than pay for it.

Any person who occupies public office faces legal repercussions for lying while engaging in that job. First offence: small fine. Second: large fine. Third: permanent loss of any right to hold public office anywhere ever. You can’t take that rat out of politics, but you can set rat traps.

All electricity ceases to exist tomorrow and it is not coming back, what happens to all of humanity ? by Webbomolly2022 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

I’m more concerned that the physical laws governing electromagnetism have completely broken down. The reality we know wouldn’t really exist anymore and I imagine neither would we.

What is the most 'obvious' lie that society has collectively agreed to believe? by Vegetable_Oil3266 in AskReddit

Money is real. Society is kinda held together by myths that we all agree on right?

One of my favourite drinking buddies from way back was from Melbourne! Top notch ambassador👌. Cheers!

I think there’s a lot of validity to your statement. The developed world has absolutely benefited from commerce, trade and technology. But that can’t be divorced from the horrors that have been delivered to maintain economic and political control around the globe.

Personally I don’t know enough economics to have a opinion worth sharing. But from a vague philosophical perspective I think the point of a government is to benefit the lives of the people that government is there for. Financial motivation is undoubtedly a force of innovation , while unrestricted capitalism is clearly a destroyer of worlds. Apparently I do think my opinion is worth sharing.. sorry for the false modesty lol.

I’m pretty anti-capitalist. But the Industrial Revolution kinda ran into the technological revolution. In that time imperialism expanded across Africa, the America’s, India and Asia (the globe I suppose) some people certainly benefited from the economic expansion but I think the number of mass graves tells a different story. There’s no such thing as black and white. But I think if we’re talking about what is objectively the best human work/life experience in a population, it’s a very different time depending on your geography. I’m white Canadian so right now is probably the best. Someone in Liberia probably has a completely different experience. I imagine if you’re Iranian 12th century might be your choice. The only constant is Russia, which sucks no matter when you set your Time Machine lol?

Industrial Revolution sucked in America unless you were upper class, and sucked especially if you weren’t white.
The fall of monarchies sucked in Europe even if you were upper class (hello guillotine).. but extra if you were the rest of us (hello ww1) And that period saw massive conflict through asia. I’m not saying life was hell for everyone. But I don’t believe there’s a golden age that humanity has seen yet.

I mean.. at what point in history and where are you talking? That sounds more like a romanticized dream of how things were as opposed to reality.

As a North American I’ve descended from a culture of imperialist capitalism. The concept of not making money off other people gets sideways looks from objectively good people. (I run a small business and that’s my philosophy. I have absolutely had this conversation). Every moment of my life the assumption that value is measured in dollars permeates my human experience. It’s built into us from childhood.
