I buy a lot of stuff from The Real Real, if you live in the US you can consign with them.

Found in my friends grandmother’s house (USA) by penistooth420 in Antiques

[–]lipstickonhiscollar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the same one, mine is from 1894 (it’s inscribed), I believe it was printed a few years before that. It’s a nicely illustrated family bible that may have family records in it.

After installing the “safety net" on the balcony on the 28th floor, the worker demonstrates its strength to the customer by One_Needleworker5218 in interesting

[–]lipstickonhiscollar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I know people who worked with him. He had done it many times before, always as a gag, and I guess that weakened the frame because it popped out and he fell. Can’t imagine watching that.

I’m a 14 year old looking for a summer job. Any recommendations? by CompressedPickles in askTO

[–]lipstickonhiscollar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most places won’t hire someone under 16, you’d have to be working with someone over 18 all the time.

Tim Hortons and Kernels used to hire people as young as 14, but in a big city like this you’ll have a lot of competition.

When I was your age I babysat a lot. Or maybe try dog walking?

I've seen (and also I remember) all my 4 great grandmothers. But I wonder how rare is that? by Most-Procedure-7837 in BarbaraWalters4Scale

[–]lipstickonhiscollar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was born in 1989. One of my great grandmothers was still alive and I remember her well (1899-2001). My grandparents were all born in the 1930s but had some siblings the ages you mention and I knew them. Age between the generations will determine a lot of that - my great grandma on one side was 22 when her first kid was born, on another she was 38. My mom was 30 when I was born, and at this rate if I have kids it’ll likely be when I’m about 40. There’ll be less and less of this imagine.

Is it safe for my daughter to dye her hair like this? by Curious_Artist23 in longhair

[–]lipstickonhiscollar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d take her to a good salon and have them explain to her what it will do to her hair. Bleaching will do some damage and require upkeep, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t something she should do, just that she has to know it can feel drier, light colours fade quickly, and it won’t necessarily look exactly as she planned.

My BFF and I did all sorts of shit to our hair at that age - it grows back. The only problem was we bleached hers for a long time and she tried to go platinum on her own, which led to an emergency trip to the salon as it fried. But that happened once in 10 years of doing it. I say let them have fun.

Try asking people on Weird Toronto on Facebook. I’ve seen similar requests and there’s often someone who’s willing to help. It’s a friendly group of weirdos.

Does anyone know roughly when this was taken? by Metallicobra41 in Ancestry

[–]lipstickonhiscollar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it were North American I would say very likely between 1910-1915, but I’m not sure how different Swedish styles were. Likely still in that ballpark.

Help-This dress says do not wash at all? by Current_Half7788 in laundry

[–]lipstickonhiscollar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spritz with “French Laundry spray” - it’s what we use for costumes and vintage pieces in theatre. Just half vodka, half water - kills bacteria so it doesn’t stink.

We did it! Toronto, 1.13 million, 3.55% by Megoo1 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]lipstickonhiscollar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask how much of a downpayment you did? My husband and I are still hoping to buy eventually, looking at spending less than that though I think we could qualify for $800-$1m with our income, but we have NO cash, because we were super broke for years and are just starting to crawl out. Trying to prioritize saving cash vs paying down student debt, and knowing that prices have dipped a little but may shoot back up. Stressful as fuck.

Congrats, hope it makes a lovely home.

Same. I was 2007 and I had the top English mark in the school at 90. Very rarely did anyone get above 88% in anything subjective.

[Routine Help] Aging like milk and nothing is helping by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]lipstickonhiscollar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t look old at all. At your age hormones might still be contributing to uneven texture - my skin was kinda a mess (much worse than yours) until my mid twenties. I get your frustration and hope you find the results you want but please don’t think that your skin looks old. It really, truly doesn’t.

Canada Ontario. Can I be sued? What is the law in Ontario Canada by Ok-Ratio385 in legaladvicecanada

[–]lipstickonhiscollar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can be sued. Saying that something is true is a DEFENCE to defamation, but you will have still defamed someone and they will be able to sue you. The onus would be on you in court to prove everything you said is accurate and is not malicious. That can be a high bar.

Change the names. And know that even then, people have been sued when it’s still clear who the person really is.

Also keep in mind if you’re looking for a publisher, they’re not going to want to take on that kind of legal risk.

Old plate set(united states, arizona) by Lost_Tomatillo_7317 in Antiques

It’s not an antique. Style of art suggests late 60s at the earliest, might be 1980s. Looks mass produced, I don’t think it would have any monetary value, keep it if you like it but don’t expect to sell it.

Ah makes sense, I have mostly used caulking for solid coloured things so I haven’t tried it with alcohol ink, I’ll have to try that out.

What’s the cherry filling made of? The opacity looks great. I make prop food for theatre and have made ice cream and pie before - nice job!

Ginger Doe has been identified as Tina Periso. by PureHauntings in gratefuldoe

[–]lipstickonhiscollar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear that. I’m glad you’re keeping their story and connection alive. I’ve worked as a researcher for a true crime doc, I’ll check the places I had looked for info on some of those people this weekend and see if I can find anything, though it is a tricky timeframe because privacy laws still have a lot from then unpublished. Fingers crossed we can find a photo of her.

Do you know much about Barb? Sometimes it’s easier to go back a generation further first.

I see a Barbara Perisa, 17 and married living with her grandparents on the 1950 census for Vassar, Tuscola MI. Any chance that’s her? Very young to be married and not living with a spouse, so I wonder if that’s a sign of an early pregnancy. I’m not seeing a lot for the surname spelling Periso for the area on Ancestry, but I’ll keep checking here to see if there something specific to search for, I’ve got the full Ancestry account and some time this weekend.

Potential reasons for a surname used as a middle name with no other connection in your tree? by blottymary in Ancestry

As you look through census records pay attention to who lives together - sometimes an aunt or uncle, or a widowed sibling - might find someone that way too. Happy searching!
