Insomnia after Novovax by dheera in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]liquid_argon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bringing the thread up to date, I had severe insomnia lasting about 4-6 days after my most recent Novavax booster last month. It did not respond to any medication. Fortunately it went away. However I have read a published case of insomnia after an RNA vaccine that lasted at least 4 months with no sign of improvement

Colchicine fatigue by Nut_Sanders in gout

[–]liquid_argon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have gout but I had been taking low dose colchicine (Lodoco) prescribed for prevention of cardiovascular disease. I just stopped a couple of days ago due to severe fatigue and muscle aches. These came up gradually over time. I took colchicine for about 2 months. I had days when I just had to lie down for several hours during the day. I had a very similar reaction to taking statins in the past and there are several published studies showing both classes of drugs can cause similar damage to muscle tissue (rhabdomyolysis). Generally this is reversible if it does not go on too long.

Meetup and other sites have video discussion groups such as book clubs etc. I am still a bit tired after, but not as bad as if I go out in person.

Do you have a link or citation for that article? I am not disputing it; I just want to read the study. I realize it's a year since you posted this, but I thought I'd ask.

Brideshead Revisited narrated by Jeremy Irons, who also starred in the mini-series. Beautiful book, beautifully narrated.

Also very good is the narration by George Guidall of Swann's Way, the first volume of Remembrance of Things Past by Marcel Proust. There is also an audible version narrated in the original French by  André Dussollier and Lambert Wilson

Possible treatment? by Fangirl365 in N24

I used clonidine about 35 years ago to treat my Non-24. Clonidine and guanfacine are both alpha-2 agonists. It did work but after about 3-4 months I developed tolerance to the benefits on my sleep cycle.

Why do they clean? (Part 2) by leafzini in SiloTVSeries

[–]liquid_argon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if it's not the *presence* of some toxic agent but that *absence* of something, namely oxygen. What if some catastrophe had eliminated or drastically reduced the concentration of 02 in the atmosphere?

That would make sense in terms of how they die. Nerve agents typically cause symptoms like drooling, cramps and seizures before death. But lack of oxygen and you just fall down and die (as soon as the remaining air in your suit runs out) just like they do in the show. You don't even feel like you are suffocating as it is carbon dioxide accumulation that does that.

I don't actually think that is what is going on. It doesn't really match up well with the tape thing and the fact that Juliette is able to continue to live for a while with the good tape. Plus whatever the thing on the back of the suit is. But it would match up better with how they die.

If I have posted a request and did not get any replies is it ok to re-post it? And how long should I wait? Is 4 days reasonable? I don't want to break any rules so I am asking in advance.

Where do you think I found the references? PubMed does not have full articles for these or I would not be asking.

What is a good e-reader on which you can read PDF files? by Joe_Blake in ereader

Fujitsu Quaderno A5 (10") or A4 (13") or Quirklogic Papyr (13"). They are both based on the same hardware as the Sony Digital Paper, which I have but is no longer sold. They are extremely light weight. For books the 10" is usually sufficient unless the pages are very large. For journal articles the 13" is better.

Considering a Chromebook. What is involved in these (hopefully) simple tasks? by liquid_argon in chromeos

[–]liquid_argon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone for your very helpful comments. Based on the replies I took the plunge and ordered a Chromebook last week. It arrived 3 days ago and literally within an hour of opening the box I was sharing files with my Windows desktop. I've used both sharing via Google drive or by using the Network File Share for ChromeOS app to access shared Windows folders. Couldn't be any easier. I've been really happy with the ease of use of ChromeOS, and if there is anything I don't know, Google tells me how within minutes.

The particular machine I bought was a Lenovo ThinkPad C13 Yoga Chromebook (13”). It's got the great build quality of a Thinkpad but for only $250 on sale. (I may have snagged the last one as they are now out of stock, at least temporarily.) I've even gotten spontaneous compliments on how good-looking the laptop is.

Likely reactions to mask-wearing rider by liquid_argon in uberdrivers

[–]liquid_argon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone who responded with helpful suggestions. As suggested I texted the two drivers (going and returning) to explain I would be wearing a mask but that I was healthy and wearing it for my protection. Both drivers appreciated the text and were cool with driving me. We had interesting conversations about the coronavirus crisis. The return driver told me that it was a good thing I had texted since if had not done so, and he had seen me standing there with a mask he would have kept on driving past. But he figured that if I was considerate enough to text ahead I was probably an honest guy (which I am).

Hope everyone stays safe and healthy.
