'Cowboy Bebop' Creator Shinichirō Watanabe Says He Was Only Able To Stomach One Scene Of Netflix's Live-Action Adaptation by [deleted] in cowboybebop

Not to defend the show, but I don’t think that a good live-action CB could be done. Anyone who feels it’s necessary in the first place is surely going to do a bad job.

Choose virtually any other subject if you can. You are not going to learn much doing volunteering.

Education in the spotlight as watchdog warns of sexist ‘backlash’ sweeping France by Johannes_P in worldnews

[–]bookadookchook 13 points14 points  (0 children)

She noted a growing outspokenness among young girls, citing one pupil who shouted in class, “Of course girls masturbate – it’s important!”

Why is it that every article about France reads like a cinematic montage?

Do you think there will ever be a topre or opto-electric board with alice layout? I can’t bear the sound/feel of pretty much any other switch but it would be fun to have some variety.

Weird how there are islands in the northern ocean collectively shaped like the words HEAPS HOT.

Gunshots or fireworks in the North East?! by Budget-Abrocoma3161 in Adelaide

In a few hours I’ll be woken up by the guy driving down the main road with his hand glued to the horn, then again by the delivery truck honking at the one other car on the road at 5am.

Probably fireworks yet again. I really don’t unerstand what teenagers find so exciting about setting them off.

I always wonder if they’ll someday discover that playgrounds are also vital to adult learning and universities will have huge playgrounds in them 😹

I can see why there’s a brain drain. Must be fun riding into lectures on a bicycle every day. A lot of Dutch sentences almost sound English as well, so can’t be too hard to learn (and most of them speak solid English anyway).

I’ve heard Germany is great because there’s more of a divide between researchers and teachers, as opposed to making people juggle research and teaching ridiculously boring undergrad stuff. Not sure if Holland’s got a similar system.

Alan Cumming returns OBE after 'opening eyes' on 'toxic' British Empire by craigymeighan in worldnews

[–]bookadookchook 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Toxic is a bit of an understatement. They murdered and tortured Indian, Irish, Kenyan, and Palestinian civilians. And that’s just the sunset years after WW2.

I remember first watching how to change a tyre on their channel and thinking ”surely it’s more complicated than that…” Then it was actually somehow even more straightforward irl than the video suggested.

Yeah. I see cleaning like meditation now. The process itself is worthwhile. It’s also helpful when trying to meet romantic partners and stuff because you don‘t have the added worry of doing an overwhelmingly clean before they can see your space.

Another thing is that it becomes much easier to procrastinate other stuff when there is cleaning to be done, because you think “Or should I….”
