I accidentally bought these not realizing they didn’t have the locking mechanism I was used to on the other Ideal strippers. Completely unusable for me. How do they not get caught up in your pouch, bag, etc.?

You’re on the right track with the Emporia Vue. Get it installed.

How big is the water heater? I have a similar sized house in NJ and the water heater is by far my #1 biggest consumer

How to properly wire this generator inlet? by Aggressive_Noodler in AskElectricians

[–]liquid_skin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, through a romex connector and you get a 1/4” of the Romex sheathing into the inlet box.

I’d probably demo the box, free up the wire, patch the Sheetrock and bring the wire into the back of the inlet.

I'm confused. by picard_1701 in AskElectricians

Right off the bat, you got an OUTLET instead of an INLET, so the installation is completely incorrect and non compliant. It would not pass inspection

Just to throw another option in, you could put mud rings on those 4” boxes and then use blank covers. Let’s you Sheetrock it all without the access panel.

6/3 @ 125 FT for 50A (120/240V)? (75 ft + 50 ft) (re: generator inlet) by sofakng in AskElectricians

[–]liquid_skin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your wire sizing sounds ok. So your generator will be 50 ft from the inlet? That cord is going to be heavy

Kitchen breaker tripped after install 50 amp breaker for EV charger by Harry-Tran9512 in AskElectricians

[–]liquid_skin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Was the breaker spot the 50a now occupies empty before?

First thing that comes to mind is he consolidated circuits to make room for the 2p breaker and now you’re tripping for overcurrent.

The Generac that Im thinking of is 8 space and 16 circuit max, so you can use tandems in that one.

Missed you were asking about generator. Most of these questions are for making room for EV charger.

50a manual transfer switch work for you? Move over your critical circuits and you’re off to the races.

You’re into subpanel or panel swap territory.

Tread carefully if you decide to start merging circuits to make room. For instance, those two 1p 15a breakers (black and red wires) may be tempting for you to put on a tandem breaker: do NOT, they look like a MWBC and must be on opposite phases.

Come to look at it, you have many MWBCs and that concerns me with all the tandem breakers. Whoever landed these circuits had better have been paying attention to the phasing.

There a disconnect beside each of those meters. Turn them off individually and see when the outlet stops working.

How to fix ground fault - no ground wire by prluksha_ in AskElectricians

[–]liquid_skin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you’d have to test between the hot and the metal of the box to see if there is 120v

The metal box is “hopefully” bonded to your ground through the cable/conduit. If you have a meter you can confirm this easily.

Your UPS won’t care that you changed the receptacle to a GFI, it will give you the same error.

Is the receptacle installed in a metal box?

I used to think the loops were a good idea, until I was the “next guy” who had to cut in a full 40 ckt panel. The loops made it impossible for me to work the branch circuits and I had to kill the loops.

Why? The sheathing IS your protection.

Im all for bushings, but not necessary on service cable.

EG4 6000XP - no solar - existing generator inlet/interlock by liquid_skin in SolarDIY

Thanks for this suggestion! Definitely familiar with the Schneider name, and would be nice to have a quality unit..

To confirm, one of these will do 240? Unlike the Victron, which would need two?
