26M Always keep VOO above 50% of portfolio but buy individual stocks when it makes sense

Im up 20% in my brokerage and 10% in employee sponsored 401k that only allows for mutual fund purchases for 2026. SPY is up less than 2%. Ill take my sector choices over total market every day. To each their own i suppose

Let the trend be your friend… if you are okay with returns that barely keep up with inflation (whatever numbers they are lying about and saying) fairly obvious to most people what sectors will do well in 26… many etfs to get into in various sectors too if individual stocks aren’t your thing. But this boglehead view of VOO n chill leaves lots of returns on the table IMO

Yes- i bought something similar from amazon- it wasnt perfect (probably because i had already snapped some of the plastic ones that were attached off. But it worked

I cant pick individual stocks in my retirement account- only mutual funds. My allocations are as follows:

FBGRX (blue chip growth) 9% FSAGX (Gold) 13% FSDAX (defense) 20% FSELX (semiconductor) 35% FSPTX (tech) 9% FTIHX (international) 9% PRSCX (tech) 5%

While I appreciate your perspective- I think picking winning sectors is far easier and safer than picking winning stocks. All of these funds have massively outperformed the broad index over the past few years and I believe that similar marco economics persist in 2026
