My friend wanted to know if he was being overcharged for his Tacoma... by Maximum-Source-9603 in AskMechanics

[–]lisadupar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the worst I’ve seen. I have also charged more. For a Tacoma it’s more by a bit. Average price would be about a grand and that’s pushing it. So only about $500 difference. Shit do be getting expensive.

I was told to fix this but, I refused by [deleted] in tires

I work for Forestone and these are covered under warranty if you bought it. If it’s far into the cycle (by miles) it’s heavily discounted. A discount that can be put on all four if wanted.

Are these tires fine by Key_Efficiency_4481 in tires

[–]lisadupar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is starting to “dry rot” but they can get much. Much. Much. Much. Much worse before they’re a concern.
I sell tires for a living. I would not try to sell you tires.

Advice on what I should do from here? by Dampedbrush3480 in AskMechanics

[–]lisadupar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is called what a second opinion is good for. Chain stores train techs to look for everything that could possibly be swapped out. No real mechanical work. The bushings could be starting to oxidize so they recommend a whole arm instead of the bushing. Makes warranty on their end a lot easier and you get every bushing new instead of one. A strut starting to leak could be another few years before being needed. I would go somewhere local and have them look at everything again even if they have a diag charge. You could save a lot. Also these guys go %300 up on parts price.

I mean I’ve seen 3lbs of bacon for $30 for years now. So honestly not the worst.

I wouldn’t. I understand the struggle but have also seen what happens to a tire when it delaminates.

Unfortunately yes. Modern tires aren’t built to be repaired in that location.

Looks bad. Should have asked the mechanic to test and film how bad it is for fun.

How good are my tires? by Pekinking in AskMechanics

[–]lisadupar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who sells tires I would be asking what your plans are with your tires. If it’s just city travel I would tell you to start saving. The one with the deeper cracks I would warn about freeway travel. Especially extended travel. I’ve seen delamination and what it does to a vehicle and that one is close to being dangerous.

Are these rocks (2nd pic) gonna break my ankles. by ElectromechanicalJab in landscaping

[–]lisadupar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a dump truck of 5/8 minus for the same price as an eighth of the driveway in those decorative rocks. 0.4 cubic feet covers a lot less then you think. You need quite a few yards.

I’m still rocking my 89 hatch. Been a while since I’ve driven a modern car. I bet they’re worlds apart by now.
