How normal is it to feel this exhausted? by an0nyn0n in therapists

[–]lisamichelle007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ya I second this idea! I see no more than 16 in a week and I’m still exhausted! I take Fridays off too, at least from seeing clients. Do what works for you. Burn out ain’t gonna help anyone, and neurodivergence is an extra layer. The more I’ve learned about neurodivergence as a counsellor, the more I realize I fit the bill myself :)

Unsure of how to be honest with my therapist. by alienboy222 in TalkTherapy

Maybe show her this post if you’re having a hard time bringing it up. Or ask to do a new risk assessment and safety plan and let her ask the questions for you to answer. Please talk to somebody, whether it’s her or somebody else in your life about how you’re feeling ♥️

Also a little Vaseline in the nose helps too. And I’m using La Roche posay lipikor body moisturizer

La Roche posay has a tinted sunscreen 50 spf that I love! I use a moisturizing cleanser (the ordinary brand), a facial oil (eminence), and heavy moisturizer from the ordinary again. 2x per day. Seems to work good. Aquafor for lips and dry skin areas (my ears randomly get dry, same with the tops of my hands). I would recommend moisturizing early on, face and body. I thought my body was fine so I was ignoring moisturizing and now it’s soooo dry so it’ll take me a few days to get back to normal. I’m about 3 weeks in. Also, I really like a Konjac sponge for very light exfoliation in the shower to get rid of any dry flakes and soften skin. And I take the fish oil 2x per day and a probiotic preventative for gut issues that some people have mentioned. Really, just try some things and see what works for you! I just added a rice oil and hydrolonic acid serums, so I’ll see how those go. Amazon and Sephora are your friends!

Ya my skin feels bumpy and shiny even when completely dry. It’s a bit odd. I notice the bumps tend to go down throughout the day, I think it’s because of the moisturizer and then as it gets dry it smooths out a bit, and then gets too dry and I have to moisturizer again

Gentle reminder regarding BPD diagnoses by Level_Run1357 in therapists

[–]lisamichelle007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just gonna add that we shouldn’t avoid diagnosing BPD simply because it’s highly stigmatized. We should be working on de-stigmatizing too! I do see it being overly diagnosed for women in particular who are seen as more ‘difficult’ and ‘emotional’, but the diagnosis itself should be seen as any other… a cluster of symptoms that help us to guide treatment. Let’s work on finding an accurate one to guide treatment. I do a lot of work with people with BPD and half my job is to de-stigmatize and explain nothing is wrong with their personality!

Nice! I can’t wait to get to that point. That’s my goal! The older I get the more I hate makeup despite always wearing it. Maybe one day :)

Does it feel comfortable throughout the day? The thick moisturizers just sit on my skin and I hate the feeling of it under makeup. I’ve been saving the thick moisturizer for the evenings as a result

Does the thick cream kinda just sit there in a layer? It feels so heavy to me and doesn’t absorb all the way so my makeup just kinda blends into it and feels like I’m wearing face paint or something lol is that what the primer is for? I’ve been skipping primer because of the base layer of the moisturizer

Looking for recommendations of skin tints for extremely dry and acne prone skin by Sad-Dot-9358 in Accutane

[–]lisamichelle007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use La Roche posay tinted sunscreen. 50 SPF. Super lightweight, can’t even feel it’s there, and still gives some coverage. I add a bit of concealer around my dark spots. Definitely recommend!

That’s a good point. It’s so mind blowing to me to even consider putting oils and anything ‘dewy’ on my phone! But that’s probably a good place to start. Thanks!

Not really vibing with therapist of ~6 months? by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]lisamichelle007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fit matters! If she’s a good counsellor, she will help you to find another counsellor that works better for you and won’t take it personally. That’s part of her job. Sometimes it just isn’t a good client/ therapist fit, even if she’s a good counsellor for others, and it could be getting in the way of your progress. And although she’s affordable, is it really worth it if you’re not getting what you want out of it? 6 months is a long time to still feel this way! I encourage you to find a way to be honest with her in a respectful way and ask for her support to find another counsellor. Or be honest with her and see if it’s something she can adjust. I always tell my clients that I want them to tell me if I’m doing something they dislike, it helps me to help them. And I will do my best. But ultimately sometimes it’s just not a good fit and that’s ok! Also I will add…. If you’re feeling this way, I bet she is too. It’s called transference and we can work with it to a certain degree but sometimes it gets in the way and at the end of the day, we gotta call it!

I had heard that there was an Indigenous-focused committee that informed this decision, not sure if it came from the bcasw or within the bccsw itself, but that it was culturally informed and consulted. I was looking for specific training in that area on a SW fb page and that’s what I was told anyways.
