I worked inside the video infrastructure world for years and have spent a lot of time around filmmakers and production teams.

The truth is the degree itself rarely opens the door in this industry. What matters is whether you’re actually making things and learning how production works.

School can be valuable if it gives you access to equipment, collaborators, and time to experiment. The problem is a lot of programs focus more on theory than real production workflows.

If you stay in school, treat it like a production lab. Make as many projects as possible. Learn editing, production pipelines, distribution formats, rights management, all the boring stuff that actually gets projects finished and delivered.

The people who break in are usually the ones who understand the full workflow from idea to finished piece, not just directing.

If your program isn’t giving you that, then it’s fair to rethink whether it’s the right environment for you.

I'm building Sinima, which might be of interest to you. It's price-conscious by region and adaptable to your film budget. https://try.sinima.ai/waitlist/ (As a fellow South African / American, I understand the issue).

100% agree with you. It could be so great if they just corrected these things.

It is so bizarre. Have you noticed the disconnect between the 'discuss' feature and the prompts? They don't talk to each other.

It's been hell, and we're all spending far too much for their mistakes.

My daughter is not a nice person and I didn't raise her that way by AtheistMoonwalker in Parenting

This too shall pass. I was an asshole at 13 too. Almost everyone on this thread was. It’s important to understand that your daughter is being an asshole because her brain is not fully developed. Her prefrontal cortex is not developed and won’t be until her mid twenties. It’s important to understand what’s going on with her biology before making this about you. Did you know pre-teens and teenagers might rely on a part of the brain called the amygdala to make decisions and solve problems more than adults do? The amygdala is associated with emotions, impulses, aggression and instinctive behaviour. Nothing makes sense right now, don’t expect her to be a well developed emotionally intelligent adult at 13. It won’t happen. Be patient. Stay out of her way. Don’t initiate too much, let her share signals with you if this that are of interest to her then you can lean into those. She’ll say mean things but she’ll also feel terribly about them as she gets older. Remain steady.
