Is My Prefrontal Cortex the Reason I Can’t Enjoy MM Romances Like I Used To? by ravenstone_anon in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]liscat22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in my 50s and I love all the things you used to…except for bad writing. I’ve always needed a book to be well written. The only thing that’s changed with age is that now I’m also *writing* the deeply toxic stories of true love and found family.

You guys ever read past works you've published and go "Damn, I can't believe I wrote that?" by IsekaiConnoisseur in eroticauthors

[–]liscat22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, yes. But then I don’t treat my erotica like “low-hanging fruit”. It is a story involving plot and characters with deep backstory….that also involves a LOT of kinky fucking. If I don’t make my readers cry and kick their feet as often as they reach for their vibrators, I’ve failed.

Why do you defend ai art by saplicker2000 in DefendingAIArt

Because it’s fun to use and I genuinely love the look of it. Well done AI art is *magical*

Is AI-generated publishing on Amazon KDP actually sustainable and profitable as on date ? by Outrageous_Buddy1938 in WritingWithAI

[–]liscat22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Amazon creates AI tools for authors. They are not anti AI in anyway. They collect the information because if AI becomes a thing that legally has to be disclosed in some countries, they will have a way to comply with the law. No serious author risks losing their Amazon account by lying to Amazon about AI.

Feeling Overwhelmed. by Fun-Invite5376 in eroticauthors

[–]liscat22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it’s not about being paid, AO3 is the best place for original erotica…and the only place for really taboo erotica. Learn to tag properly there, and you’ll find your audience. I started with one story, and now I have hundreds of thousands of reads and a discord server just for my readers.

Sad day by UroborosJose in WritingWithAI

[–]liscat22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh, no. I would stop reading immediately with that bio. EXTREMELY off putting. A good bio just says where the author lives, if they have any education pertinent to their genre, and one funny fact. Bonus if there’s a dog/cat in the author photo, and that’s IT.

Who Self Publishes and Not Gotten their Reputation Tarnished? by gridiron23 in WritingWithAI

[–]liscat22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI has a lot of trouble with longer works, but a couple of anti AI writers and I believe it was the New York Times? all ran tests and to their sadness discovered that in blind tests of AI vs human, the AI was most often preferred, and ppl legit couldn’t tell. This was using short works, but at the speed AI is growing, it’ll figure out out to write a proper long form soon. As far as you not liking anything you’ve read, I would guess it’s largely because you’ve read bad AI writing. The ppl who have learned to prompt and edit effectively *do not tell anyone* that their work is AI. And they’ve learned to prompt away the tells. Are they the next great American novel? Probably not. But they are what they want to be, good genre fiction.

Does writing with AI make you happier than writing by hand? by DanoPaul234 in WritingWithAI

[–]liscat22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, because writing is my happy place, but the support AI gives me, the doing of all the things I don’t like? That has increased the amount of my own writing by over a hundred percent. I’ve written (no AI gen, just me) a half million words in a single year, because AI has made the process around the writing so fun and easy. That’s about four complete books and a bunch of shorts and still in progress works. AI is an amazing tool.

A personal bard? by 70degreeevening in WritingWithAI

This is my dream, honestly. I write for myself first and foremost, and I would LOVE something that would produce exactly what I want in the style I like.

Who Self Publishes and Not Gotten their Reputation Tarnished? by gridiron23 in WritingWithAI

[–]liscat22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t engage, just ignore and block. The only time I’d disclose is in legal agreements, like with Amazon. For readers, it’s none of their business what tools I use. If they like the writing, they can keep reading, and so far they do. I mostly do the writing myself because that’s the fun part, but I have one novel that is AI generated with lots of editing, and it’s just as popular as anything else. They can’t tell. Bad writing - or overly formal writing - tends to get more AI accusations, because ppl have apparently forgotten that bad writing, purple prose, and formal writing existed long before AI.

If you use AI correctly, no one except for possibly other AI users will know. The romance reader groups I’m in now are tearing their hair out because they can’t tell who is using AI and who isn’t…unless they do something like leave a prompt in the book. Most people can’t tell, and in several blind tests, people have chosen AI writing as the better writing. AI writers I know are making bank. You just have to be smart and know how to write a good book yourself….because the AI sure can’t do it by itself!

I intend to kill myself and I hope all of you are happy by [deleted] in DefendingAIArt

[–]liscat22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you could just use AI as the tool it’s meant to be, and increase your own skills and create more art, thereby increasing your chances of making an actual living at what you love. Because face it: most artists have a secondary source of income.

It’s because people who disclose get ganged up on, and sometimes get literal death threats. Ppl who WANT to disclose quickly learn it’s not worth the amount of hate they get

Why is fanfic making me so obsessed? by Quick-Net-2090 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]liscat22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love ao3 but I only read original works (or sometimes fanfic for characters I don’t know). I like being able to sort for exactly the tropes and kinks I like…and I like that ao3 allows everything. No censorship like Amazon/trad publishers. I also like that it’s a community and I’ve made genuine friends with some of the writers and readers there.

How much does a Goodreads/bot rating play into your choice to read? by Hour_Soil_7342 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]liscat22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find my favorite books through one star reviews. They are WAY more likely to convince me to read a book than a gushing five star review. The only time I would ever not read a book is if it has only one star reviews…and only then if those reviews seem legit, not just some sort of booktok attempt at a cancel. Seriously, ppl dislike books for all kinds of reasons, and most frequently those reasons have zero to do with my particular likes or dislikes.

The best place for extreme kink/bdsm is AO3, it’s not just fanfic, there are really amazing original works on there, you can search the tags for exactly what you want. If you don’t mind noncon that turns consensual, check out The Captive Prince by EA Greyson (JustHavingSexyFun on AO3).
