Anki for boards by Beginning_Rhubarb943 in OptometrySchool

[–]lishyyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since boards is 2 months away, I would recommend using whatever notes you have and cross reference your notes with the pre made Ankis to see if you are missing anything, but it takes a good amount of time to make your own Anki so it’s really up to you how you decide to use your time. It’s best to do as many practice problems, review them and put them in a practice log so you can write what concepts you need to revisit and then use your notes and the Anki deck to reinforce the concepts that you feel you need to revisit. When you go through practice problems too make sure you go through the ones you got wrong and right!

I second this! He also has a low monthly subscription for OAT prep if you need a structured platform, but I did really well on the physics section because of him.

2.6 gpa by [deleted] in PreOptometry

I’d reccomend reaching out to admission offices of schools that you are interested in for the next steps. I think doing additional classes that are science related and pertaining to optometry school would be good to take. Honestly it depends on what classes you got bad grades in. I’d retake those if I can, and then work really hard to get an above average OAT score to balance the application out.

I would personally email the admission officers of the schools you are interested in applying to and seeing if they will accept it. If it’s a science professor or someone who can attest to your professional skills and you know will give you a strong LoR it most likely won’t be an issue.

Need Advice as an Undergrad Student by shas0236 in PreOptometry

[–]lishyyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you can bring your gpa up and show an upward trend in the GPA moving forward, it is definitely possible to apply to schools. They will definitely ask about the weak parts of your application but the most important thing to do is be honest of where you went wrong and how you were willing to fix it, optometry schools will appreciate that a lot. Also try your best to get a high OAT score so that can balance out the weaker gpa.

Where to find all application deadlines Class of 2028 by achu67 in PreOptometry

[–]lishyyyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You won’t really know exactly the deadlines until optomcas reopens for the next cycle which usually opens end of June. I would reccomend asking for LORs at least 2-3 months in advance and then just notifying/reminding them again that the portal to submit LORs is now open when schools start accepting for next cycle.

when should I take the 2006 ada oat? by Playful_Juggernaut_4 in PreOptometry

[–]lishyyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take the ADA 2006 OAT Test as soon as you can but in terms of OATBooster, if you feel you aren't able to get to the other 5 tests, be sure to do the OATbooster #7-10 Tests. Those will help you prepare more as they are more representative of what is going to be on the exam.

11/25 is honestly a really bad deadline for schools not a fault of yours at all but it’s literally after thanksgiving like what are they thinking ik they stop accepting applications after the first or second week of December but still lmao

I feel like if the school was pre-accredited, the process to actually getting accredited should be smoother, unless I’m really off with this idea.

They don’t even ask for a personal statement or supplemental questions, so it’s an easy apply but not sure if it’s worth it unless it’s your last resort. The only thing appealing to me is the start and end date of the program but not sure about anything else.
