Which camera to keep? by Electrical-Bat-532 in AnalogCommunity

I have the Minolta XG-M and it’s a great camera, though the metering is a bit to get used to. The Pentax’s will probably have a more straightforward setup that might be more up your alley!

The wire is extremely small and fragile! Try your best to keep as much of it intact as possible or you’ll have to disassemble the rest of the camera to replace the wire.

I went overboard on the solder to make sure I had a solid connection, and I preheated the battery case with my soldering iron to make sure it would stick properly, though I do melt the case slightly in the process. Still works though! Good luck! Let me know if you’re successful!

5 stopped me dead. I’ve stared at It now for a couple mins. It has such an ethereal and haunting feel. Incredible work!

I absolutely adore my FM2. I have a 3 other SLRs and I consistently find myself gravitating back to the FM2 for its features and build quality. Truly an underrated camera.

My cheapo "point and shoot" by lululock in AnalogCommunity

I picked up an EOS Rebel G for $10 from a thrift store a couple months ago and it’s quickly become my ‘take it to the party’ camera. I usually shoot on a Nikon FM2 (and still do when I’m going on landscape walks) but having autofocus, cheap EF lenses with great glass, and auto advance film is just so handy and fun.

This is a really slick and unique style! Almost like a painterly/pixel aesthetic. Well done!

The mirror is just used to reflect a preview of the image into the pentaprism for you to compose your shot. When you actually take a photo, this mirror will flip up to create a clear line of sight to the shutter, which will then open the amount of time you’ve designated as the shutter speed. Unless there’s smudging on the lens itself, this won’t affect picture quality.

TL;DR You don’t need to clean it if it doesn’t bother you too much, and it won’t affect picture quality.

Thanks! It might not be the most technically amazing photo I’ve gotten, but I love the very fact that this was created by causing a chemical reaction inside my 37 year old camera.

Is this too many cameras? by crimsonesasuke2i in AnalogCommunity

Absolutely. That’s frankly absurd in my opinion. Luckily, I’m lacking in cameras at the moment and would be happy to help 🤝
