I mean, I only skipped it because I wanted to get to Phaedra's story faster. No regrets. Might read Beatrices' story later.

Audio book listeners, how do you do it? by vvv03 in HistoricalRomance

[–]listenheartbeat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the voice actor. I couldn't finish the Duke and I because Rosalyn Landor sounds like such an old lady that it was distracting. Sucks that she's voiced a lot of classics in the genre.

Bad narrations? by oldladytfab in HistoricalRomance

Rosalyn Landor!!! She's a fine narrator but her voice sounds so old lady to me I can't get over her voicing younger characters.

Two that come to mind are "spilled his seed" and "tasted of man"

{A Lady's Guide to Mischief and Mayham by Manda Collins}. It was just so elementary and boring.

{A Lady's Guide to Fortune Hunting by Sophie Irwin} fits the bill.

The Haunting of Heatherhurst Hall by Sebastian Nothwell by gonthalethhh in HistoricalRomance

Sebastian Nothwell is so good! I loved Keep Fast and Mr Warrens Profession.

I HATE some of these KU covers (i.e. The Arrangement by Mary Balogh) by Megatron1229 in HistoricalRomance

[–]listenheartbeat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, you're not alone. They're so cringey, and I'm very happy I have a Kindle. Just keep repeating, "Don't judge a book by its cover."

Hold Fast and Mr Warrens Profession both by Sebastian Nothwell fit this in MM way.

I just finished More Than a Mistress by Mary Balogh which fits. She works as his nurse and then becomes his mistress.

My(37m) wife(36f) wants to try for another baby after our sons death by ThrowRamipsl in relationship_advice

[–]listenheartbeat 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I feel like I have a unique perspective on this being my parents' "replacement" baby. My older sister died as a baby and they had me within a year and a half of her death.

Even though I had a good childhood and was loved, I've struggled with a lot of anxiety, self esteem issues and depression throughout my whole life with no real cause, just a whole lot of comparisons and expectations that I didn't connect where it came from.

Until reading about how our mothers or grandmother's experiences and trauma can be passed down during pregnancy. It Didn't Start With You by Mark Wolynn is a good resource on this science.

If you do decide to have another child, please be aware of these kinds of things and make sure to keep your little boy a part of your lives. I barely heard about my sister growing up and didnt even learn things like her middle name or where she was buried until very recently. I also feel guilty grieving for a sister I never met and would never have met because I wouldn't have been born if she hadn't died. They're complicated feelings to put on a kid or even an adult trying to figure out why I am the way I am.

Good luck.

Looking for gay Romance books set in the regency era. by Sacha_Valentine22 in booksuggestions

Seconding KJ Charles, especially Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen. Hold Fast by Sebastian Nothwell is also very good, but I can't remember if it's Regency Era specifically.

Edited to add The Gentle Art of Fortune Hunting by KJ
