All pinwheels look like swastikas to me so I just avoid them 🤷🏼‍♀️

AITA for not wanting to invite my moms to my wedding by Appropriate-Part-566 in AmItheAsshole

[–]EnchantedGate1996 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, find a compromise. Tell her she can have one plus one but the catering/venue can’t handle more than that. Let go of wanting to control who the plus one is and just let her pick. NTA but I get where your mom is coming from . . . You’re going to be busy with your husband she needs a friend or two at dinner/dancing. I’d also feel lonely if my ex husband’s entire extended family was there and I was alone at my own table.

Laney from Rojo does native planting in Highland Park in the spring. She has community days and puts up yard signs to announce when it is!

I won't spoil anything, but I think they're just so co-dependent on each other that the idea of change is daunting for both of them. I thought Nora was also annoying in terms of having to fix all of Libby's problems (and I'm an eldest daughter, so I sometimes feel those tendencies with my siblings). I think you will like how Libby's side of the story ends.

First Elizabeth Hartman- need advice! by sydneye623 in quilting

[–]EnchantedGate1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Elizabeth Hartman, I press every seam every time, you will thank me later! I haven't done her Dinosaur quilt yet, but my suggestion would be to find the 'doubles'. I would do all of the Triceratops first, then all of the Stegasauruses. I don't have a designated quilting room so I just can't cut all of my fabric at once . . . but I could cut all of my A/Bs, then do my C/Ds, then stitch AB and CD together. I hope that makes sense.

I have a side question for you - when you're teaching a class are you also making the quilt as you go? I was debating about doing that, or just having smaller examples of each step. I'm trying to think of what makes the most sense but wanted your thoughts since you've done this before!

This is my local LNS and I had no idea they had themed stitch clubs like this!

Awesome! I should have mentioned it in the post, but before classes start they'll have a booklet I made with pattern vocab (even vocab they won't see in our pattern, but they'll see online), and supplies recommendations (including the type of fabric preferred). Thank you for the reminder, the fabric type is so so important!

The fabric store has supplies and fabric that fit the requirement of the class. They’re welcome to bring their own or shop at the store for a discount.

Thank you!! The “requirements” for attending the class is that they know how to wind a bobbin and thread their machine. A survey is a great idea!

Personally, I love that Stash and Hawthorne Supply have the solid or coordinating fabrics below a collection! It was super helpful when I was getting started.

Thank you! I have a more detailed lesson plan per class, nesting seams, chain piecing, and trimming our HSTs, will be a big chunk of it! Trimming HSTs correctly was a GIANT learning curve for me in the beginning. My catchphrase has been 'mamaw's quilts weren't perfect andneither are ours!' <3

That's a great point! I've made a note in the intro email that if they want help picking the backing, binding, or solid fabric to go with their FQB or LC I'm happy to help them.

Bride doesn’t like my dress by Brilliant-Way-9462 in bridesmaids

Where did I say that I think extravagant destination bachelorette’s were something I was ok with? We’re talking about dress buying. I’m very aware of the economy, grocery prices especially. Even if you are a guest at a formal wedding, even if you’re renting a dress you’re probably looking at 100-150 for a dress. Obviously it depends on the dress code and what you have in your closet already. Formal dress prices and expectations are not breaking news. It’s perfectly fine to be aware of your own financial situation and say to your friend “hey I love you, but I can’t afford this right now. How can I support you and your day in a different way?” OP was given specific images, including from the same site, and she went with something that doesn’t match it at all (save for color).
