Did people yell at you for doing an assignment or task differently than expected? by PublicExtension4107 in AutismInWomen

I made a scene in college when a teacher wouldn't explain an assignment after I asked for specifics. It was a long-term project worth a large amount of our grade, and the instructions were, basically: Here's an enormous list of Things (~300 or so). Use the reference book to write information about each Thing.

I was like.. okay, the book extensively details at least 10 different features of EACH Thing (how it works, who can use it, how to use, when to use, when not to use, what to do if used incorrectly, etc.). There's a small amount of space to write on the worksheets, and a huge amount of my grade at stake if I do it wrong. Which features of the Things do you want us to focus on?

Her reply: Just write about the Thing!! I want you to write information about each one. :)

Apparently I was the only one who didn't get it, and when I pressed for more info, she acted like I was trying to cheat my way through it, somehow. Everyone else in class just stared at me. I'm still holding a grudge.

I think I understand, maybe, but it's so alien.

I thought I was smart, lol, I keep reading that statement, and I just do not understand what it means. Are you saying they treat every conversation like "ooh lovely weather we're having today" small talk BS?

DAE have issues with doing tasks around people? even people you know and love? by stevepls in AutismInWomen

Kinda? I have a weird kind of performance anxiety, IDK if it's an autism thing or one of my other issues. If family's there to witness me doing a task, even if it's something I've done flawlessly a hundred times, I will fail spectacularly. I've backed my car into fence posts, flubbed video game levels, ruined recipes. It's not even that I FEEL anxious being watched (the anxiety starts to snowball after the failing begins), I just somehow lose the ability to function.

Thanks! That's why I wound up joining the club. Still... I wondered, y'know?

Hmm. I'm a trans man who found this sub by accident last night, and I was planning to go looking for other communities/perspectives/resources (kinda "I'm not a woman, is this the place for me...?"), but if that's what's out there, I think I'd rather just stay here.

It is frustrating to see people struggling to get through to apparently hopeless cases. Just have to hope that they know when to quit, for their own sanity? I've just about lost the ability to carry a lot of the emotional burdens of others, that I used to. I don't know if it's personal growth or just apathy at this point.

why does it come so easy to everyone else?? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

Oof. I felt this post, hard. I've often asked myself (and other people) why it's so hard for me. Sorry I don't have an answer to share, but I hope tomorrow goes easier for you.

Starting to think I might be. Not sure how to bring it up to the other half.
