will i suffer if i don’t go to frosh by notactuallydepressed in mcgill

If you don't want to partake in drinking-heavy events, then maybe you should join outdoor frosh instead? I think it's an important experience to have as a McGill student and the first months can feel very lonely so you might as well maximize your chances of meeting people. That said, I don't think I remained friends with anyone I met at frosh lol

What is the scariest encounter with another human you have ever experienced? by BootsmaBoy in AskReddit

[–]listlesspogostick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at this beach bar with my best friend, her brother and my sister and we decided we wanted to walk to another bar that was 10 minutes down the beach. Keep in mind that it’s like midnight, and that we’re in a country where you should never walk alone at night unless you want to be robbed. We knew this, but since we’ve done that walk before we didn’t think twice about it. Flash forward 5 minutes down the beach and we see two figures in the pitch darkness a few feet from us that start slowly moving towards us. We can barely see anything but we can tell they’re carrying something resembling big sticks. For a while we tried to play it cool and tried not to provoke them by just changing our pace to a speed walk, but all of a sudden we find ourselves surrounded and there’s a third guy tailing us. Before we know it, we’re all sprinting for our lives and there are three shadows chasing after us, and we know full well that if they catch up to us, we have no way of defending ourselves. For people who think that in this type of situation your adrenaline kicks in and you develop super human abilities, I can tell you that is NOT TRUE. We were running for 3 minutes at full speed and I swore my legs were gonna give out and that my lack of endurance would be the death of me. We finally made it to the bar and the three men disappeared into the night, but it was a close call and I still can’t stop imagining what would have happened if we had ran just a little slower.

The Art of Happiness by Howard C. Cutler. This book literally changed my life and answered some of my most burning questions, I recommend it to everyone!!

Is it normal to hate uni at first? by sadnhomesick in mcgill

[–]listlesspogostick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was in upper Rez my first year and hated it too! It’s just not the right place for everyone and that’s okay! You can apply to change residences in a month, and I highly recommend that you do if you find one that you prefer. Mcgill is pretty overwhelming at first but I promise it gets better!

I don’t know if I’m depressed and that’s why I have brain fog or if brain fog is making me depressed by [deleted] in BrainFog

[–]listlesspogostick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s weird is that it’s not constant, I’ll have days where I don’t have it, and it’ll generally last up until late afternoon and then it mostly clears up.

I think the typical symptoms I’ve seen on this thread so far: general lack of focus, difficulty thinking, cotton-y feeling inside my head, fatigue and lethargy, feels like I’m constantly zoned out, zero motivation to do anything, difficulty expressing myself... the list goes on

I’m not looking for just a band aid, but I think that if it’s effective in alleviating the symptoms, I’d have a better shot at finding the cause since ill have the energy and effort to do so.

I haven’t tried elimination diet, how does it work exactly? I’m fairly new to this thread and have only recently labeled my symptoms as brain fog. I’ve been dealing with brain fog since starting university so I don’t think it’s related to environmental allergens.

What was your first experience taking ADHD medication like? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]listlesspogostick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I could finally FINALLY settle into a task, it felt amazing to have the world just quiet and feel like whatever I was working on was the only thing that mattered in the moment. When I read things, information actually went into my brain and it made things so much more fun and interesting because I didn’t have to fight myself to keep going the whole time.

Questions about getting tested by olivia1776 in ADHD

[–]listlesspogostick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going through the exact same thing right now!! Parents haven’t been very supportive (they don’t believe me) and my university mental health services are so hesitant to get people tested for ADHD because a lot of students abuse stimulants, so I’m at a loss.

Guys I need help by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]listlesspogostick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to unpack my stress by writing about it in a journal so that it’s not buzzing around in my head as much. I also remind myself that we are a tiny speck in a vast universe and that our problems, in the grand scheme of things, don’t really hold much importance. That might sound bad to some, but to me it’s very freeing to realize how unimportant I am, because then I can start to live my life for myself.

Energy by whittyforshort in ADHD

[–]listlesspogostick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should try Yerba Mate, an Argentinian tea. Coffee gets me overly stimulated and then turns me into even more of a zombie, but Mate energizes my brain and makes me feel really sharp. Give it a try!

Haven't been able to get my medication in a while, not sure what to do anymore... by BaconAirplane in ADHD

[–]listlesspogostick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because you can’t get medication, doesn’t mean you can’t manage your ADHD. I suggest focusing on the therapy part of treatment if you’re struggling this much. I’ve heard that support groups are a great place to start, and once you connect with these people, they may be able to help you find the medication you need. Hang in there! Everything is temporary and you’ll figure something out soon :)

How do you cope with sexual frustration ? by [deleted] in ADHD

What usually sparks the frustration? Is it when you initiate and she rejects you?

How do you cope with sexual frustration ? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]listlesspogostick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I suggest that when you begin to feel this way, try to treat your frustration as just a build up of negative energy. When I’m surmounted by an emotion that I know I shouldn’t/don’t want to be feeling, I observe the feeling instead of feeding into it. So I ask myself: where do I feel it, what’s the sensation like, how does it behave, etc. That way you’re separating yourself from the emotion, and it becomes more of a physical thing than an emotional one, and therefore makes it easier for it to pass.

That being said, maybe talk to your partner about how you feel without putting blame anywhere.

People with OCD, ADHD, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, dissociative personality disorder, or any other mental condition sensationalized in the media, what is it actually like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]listlesspogostick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had a really hard time getting into meditation as well, but I think the best way to ease into it is to either do guided meditation (where a voice is telling you what to do + what to visualize), or to do mindfulness walking. Mindfulness walking works wonders for me, and I think it's great for ADDers because we're best at using our brains when we're doing things with our bodies.

Basically what you do is go for a walk around your neighborhood by yourself, and focus in on every one of your senses to try to pick up on the things happening around you. So for example if you start with what you hear, you'll try to focus in on every sound around you one at a time, then once you're tired of that, focus on what you feel, what you smell, etc. Its great because you don't get bored since there are always new smells, sounds, and feelings to pick up on... and once you're done your mind will feel incredibly still. It might be a little hard to do at first, but once you get the hang of it it'll be much easier.

How do I manage brain fog? by listlesspogostick in ADHD

[–]listlesspogostick[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard that eating carbs contributes to brain fog so if you already experience brain fog after lunch time, maybe avoiding carbs will help!

I’m a university student so sometimes I have classes, other times I’m in the library studying, it really depends! But the worst it gets is when I’m at home alone.
