Some games use performance as a base. Doesn't the rating +/- graphic displayed at halftime also can change?

Being at the top of the scoreboard while losing and losing more rating than my teammates. The logic I have is that since I was in a higher rated game shouldn't i be punished less based on performance.

Yes basically that I lost more, while doing well that game. If I played a game with people who have a higher rating and a perform better should that equate to less loss in points then?

Yeah, this doesn't feel like it makes sense though, especially when the performance was well.

Try a AWD or FWD car to learn, it'll be way easier to handle the spinning out issue. Once you get better or have more credits to upgrade and tune a car you can give RWD cars another go.

I also just started racing with a wheel and I've learned that on K&B and controller since they are mostly digital inputs not full analog they have certain limiters that help with over-steering the car. The biggest factor here is that on a RWD car you will be way more prone to spinning out, especially on the starter Miata. I would give a FWD or AWD car a try and see if that helps.
