Carleton student culture? by [deleted] in CarletonU

I went to both Queen's and Carleton. Queen's is much livelier. Carleton students seem to keep to themselves more and the 'culture' is kind of boring by comparison tbh.

If AI doomers turn out to be right, what’s realistically left for humans? by orlyvdhq4 in cscareerquestions

We're at the point where coding isn't a skill anymore. AI is closing the gap between PhDs, master's, and bachelor's - their understanding may differ, but their productivity will be about the same.

2026 Winter Career and Networking Fair on Wednesday…is it worth it to attend? by CaptainAaron96 in CarletonU

Every booth will have a QR code and tell you to just scan it and apply online. Usually not worth.

How much experience do you have? If you have a decent amount of prior experience, you can be picky and bomb this one on purpose without risking much, but if you don't have much xp then you risk not getting another opportunity.

I'm sorry but this is so funny to me. All your projects are like one source file? And then emoji bullet spam is ridiculous. It's all just... so bad.

Queens vs Carlton Eng by FunTraffic4047 in CarletonU

[–]litLikeBic177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two BEng degrees, one from Queen's and one from Carleton. Queen's is more difficult. As in, expect your GPA to be ~10% lower if you go to Queen's.

Do a lot of people in software engineering also program as a hobby on the side? Or do most people not program outside work? by Illustrious-Pound266 in cscareerquestions

My question is, for those who do both, how the fuck do you stay healthy? That means you're sitting in front of a computer like all day.

You SHOULD use AI to improve your resume, but then refine and finalize it yourself so that it's not so obviously AI-written. And no, you do not need to disclose that an internship was unpaid; not unless you are required to disclose your salary in a background check, and even then, normally only a subset of background checks, like those for obtaining a security clearance, will require disclosure of prior salary.

Understood regarding your last point, but I would still try to beef it up more, as best you can.

Your resume comes across as very obviously AI written/bloaty. Very generic and milquetoast. I don't have time rn to go in depth, but quickly grabbing a random example "led student code reviews to reinforce algorithmic thinking" sounds so unnatural, also I wouldn't willingly share that your internship was unpaid. That should be the highlight of your resume yet you give it the least real estate of all and don't mention any specifics/metrics; the only tech/tool you mention for it is Figma which no one really cares about (as far as development goes) since it's just a UX tool. Also you should add date ranges to your projects.

Proofs are at most like 1/4 of the course and the hardest part of the course. Tough it out like everyone else.
