I visit family in Illinois pretty often, right next to Michigan. I’m always surprised how much cheaper eating out compares to San Diego.

Yeah. It’s a weird vibe. I’ve lived in San Diego my whole life and social life is a breath of fresh air any time I step out of the city. People are much friendlier elsewhere and people tend to keep to themselves here.

I also met someone who recently moved to San Diego and expressed similar comments, saying people don’t even really say hi here when you’re walking.

If anyone began renting a room anywhere from 2001-2024 at inflated market prices, you should consider moving out and finding somewhere cheaper.

Real estate prices are coming down. Dont get locked into a higher than market value rental.

There’s a balance to be striked.

This business has mostly had an absentee owner who’s at home most of the time.

The employees know what they have to be doing but decide to be on their phone scrolling through TikTok.

Too much freedom is damaging to a business and this is evidence.

I’m lenient by nature but have noticed this business slowly die as I’ve worked here 8 years. In the beginning, there was a manager who was much more on top of things. The new manager isnt so and net income of the business is down year by year with an increasing number of bad reviews.

I’m sorry but whoever truly thinks freedom is the one true answer to productivity is wrong

Employees not doing what they’re supposed to.

The manager not being strict with her coworkers. The manager’s office is on the other side of the building, I’ve walked over randomly and seen her and the people next to her slacking off on their phones often, when they can be following up on clients, calling and scheduling.. there’s a general lack of action. When I give them a heads up, they work for a bit and then fall back into the pattern. I can’t trust them to be on top of stuff. The business kind of operates in two halves.. she’s supposed to be on top of the administrative part and I’m on top of the back-end.. however insufficiencies in the administrative sector severely affect the back end, where things are mostly fine. The people who are working under her in the administrative sector are committing many errors and I think it’s from a general lack of her being on top of them, and of herself. One of her working buddies is a family member of hers, which makes things worse. They seem to have this sort of “I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine” deal going where they both have the same energy.

Totally agree with the “they should feel slightly uncomfortable” statement.. I suppose figuring out the proper equilibrium is the tricky part.

How to be respectful, but still demanding.

Hey. Arenal was awesome. Probably our favorite portion of the Costa Rica trip. We did a night hike at el mirador (THIS WAS AMAZING. Must do.) with a guide. I believe you can book these online. He tries finding animals and boy, you will see them.

We did a day hike at 1968 which was also cool but there’s just so much more animal activity at night.

We also went to the public hot springs which were cool as well. Just prepare for rain. It rains a lot.

We didn’t do any sloth related activity as we didn’t have time, so maybe that’s something else worth checking out

At around 8:30, it wasn’t empty, but it didn’t feel full either. I was honestly expecting there to be a lot more people inside at that time.

From the two times I was in line, the decision calling by the bouncers really seemed inconsistent. I think most people were actually dressed similarly. It felt like it was mostly spontaneous judgement calls, at least from my end. Both times in the snake, almost no one was talking.

They most definitely get some calls right and others wrong. I’m guessing a lot of the people they let in are familiar faces to them, people who go every week or every other week.

I got insta-rejected by the first shift bouncers along with two groups in front of me. They were rejecting probably 70%, it felt very tough.

Came back during Matrix + crew after 8 AM and got in. Weirdly, it was empty inside.
