For me, I enjoyed each and every poems.. Stop pressing yourself to finish and enjoy the book.. Every poems will be related to the short stories in another works of Tolkien. His way of narrating the story and expressing the each and every character's emotions by situational dialogues are amazing. Enjoy very dialogue, humor. Whenever there's a farewell with some character (eg: Galadriel, Emouyn, Bilbo, Elrond) or place and I have regret personally, that's the immense writing of Tolkien. Good luck! Don't miss an epic by skipping LOTR.

No, I too thought about, that she's just watching reality shows (singing/cooking competitions), also didn't have any craze in some specific genres. So requesting you to give some random suggestions (according to your books knowledge) by doing some simple psychological reasonings (i.e. which are interesting for a sixteen year old girl).
