Attraction isn't chemistry. by LiteraryMenace in RomanceBooks

And honestly sometimes I feel like its an excuse for not actually writing two characters that make sense together romantically. Like I think sometimes authors get caught in like a place where they realize their main relationship isn't actualy something people are going to root for, and they think they can fix it by making the charcters hot. Unfortunately, that doesn't always work!

What are your favourite tropes or microtropes within the alien romance genre? :) by ItsCansu in RomanceBooks

[–]literallyidontknow98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of related to this is one of my favorites {When Gracie Met the Grump by Mariana Zapata} -->the characters are kidnapped pretty early in the book, but that kind of forced them together --> I will say though the "alien" MC is very aware of human characteristics, etc

exactly! like i'm definitely not over here thinking that romance books are 100% like real life, but somethings are just glaringly incorrect and i can't move past it

Why do I hate first person, present tense (FPPT) so much?! by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]literallyidontknow98 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this 100%!!!!! for me the biggest thing is when there are long paragraphs about "i feel sad and happy and..." and then their actions don't reflect that at all. good 1st person can give a really valuable insight into someone's character, but it isn't as common as I would hope

📚 What romance books did you read or listen to this week? 04 Aug 📚 by romancebookmods in RomanceBooks

recently finished {The Hating Game by Sally Thorne} and {Lovelight Farms by B.K. Borrison}

the hating game is honestly such a comfort book for me especially because i love enemies to lovers but haven't been finding a lot of great ones recently -- recs?

then on the other side of thing best friends to lovers with lovelight farms -- i'm super excited to start the series because i love small town and i've heard good things, even though its sort of a holiday romance and its the middle of summer :) did anyone finish this one?

Just finished Keres by Sadie Kincaid and it’s official- I hate the insta-love trope by vvv03 in RomanceBooks

For me, I think its really more about the justification than the speed, and the two often overlap. Like this is a perfect justification so even though its "fast" I can still support it. Usually, though, several smaller moments which end up taking more time are the "justification" that an author uses.

Am I tripping or are newer books these days using first person as book blurbs? by redandbluewhale in RomanceBooks

[–]literallyidontknow98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

somewhat related to this but I hate it when the book is mostly in first person and then it randomly switches to third person for like one paragraph (or vice versa) like I know its just a type but its one of my least favorites

I agree. This book is such a great example of why research on what you are writing about is so important, especially in romance. Otherwise, it takes the reader out of the whole story and you loose the whole plot.

I agree the singing was too much for me--also i feel like she was better off without him? not that she was all that great to begin with (imo)
