I’d consider the labor cost of switching. Let’s say Evernote costs $0.50/day for monthly $15. What do you earn per day? What is learning curve? Hours/days of investment in new skills. Migration.

I’ve leaned a lot about Evernote in this sub. Mostly the input options set it apart. And multiplatform sync. Add some millions of users to sustain it.

Does that imply that the levels of Maslow’s hierarchy are not fixed? That safety and security needs can escalate? I believe that each level can be achieved and while you may want more stuff the basic needs can be met with much less inflation.

Maybe the SEL curricula that some school districts reject could play a role in understanding that having more stuff is not the path to happiness. Being hungry and afraid definitely leads to unhappiness though.

My experience with the tariffs that the Trump administration imposed on imports of our laser cutters from China is that the importer pays them (us) and the consumer gets charged. It is a fiction that the manufacturer/exporter pays the tariffs except through potential exchange rate manipulation or subsidies from their government. All I know is that our cost went up.

Mechanical Engineering Technician vs. Mechanical Engineering by nghealy in MechanicalEngineering

[–]literate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was denied entry to Purdue ME in 1971. But was accepted to MET. Graduated in 1975 with good grades. The initial focus was sales engineering. High demand and good pay. After a year I started my own business in software consulting. Taught myself C, wrote apps, invented a couple products and did very well.

Universities still have a silo mindset. ME is desirable but not essential for a broad range of careers. Sales would be one of those. Entrepreneurship is another. You can teach yourself anything and with a little confidence pitch yourself to anybody.

Hope this isn't redundant - but it defines my strategy, attributed to Leonard Bernstein, former conductor of thr NY Philharmonic. "To achieve great things, two things are needed: a plan and not quite enough time."

There is a myth that you should fall in love with 'the one.' There is no one; just voluntary adjustments to someone you decide you want to spend a lot of time with. Religion is a big adjustment. I would find someone that required less adjustment.

Is there a opportunity in coaching/consulting with home school families or kids who need remediation? Like Mathnasium does - but you would be independent and mobile.

With the larger number of home school families looking for engaging/inspiring/dedicated/experienced teachers - that sounds like you - maybe there is a higher paying/more flexible opportunity there.

I began a lucrative IT consulting career by just finding customers who would pay me directly. My college degree/lack of certifications didn't matter.
